Hi,  looking to purchase a new set of AP2 714 irons and went for a fitting by a Titleist employee at my local Golftown about 2 weeks ago. In the end he said I should get the Project X 5.5 shafts because he "really liked my numbers". My ball speed was average 123 mph, spin rate was about 5800, and launch was 20. I was averaging 190 yards with a 6 iron, swing speed is 90-95 mph. I'm just concerned because everything I'm looking at online points me into the direction of 6.0 or 6.5's but he didn't even make me try these shafts. Any thoughts? I called golftown and he said I should trust the fitter and go with the 5.5's regardless of what everything online says..

    Thanks.

    Hi Jake,

Remember that swing speed is only part of the fitting, as tempo plays just as big role also.  I was just fitted also by our Titleist rep out in Cow Town, and my numbers are very similar to yours (90 mph, 190 carry, spin 5200, and launch of 18 with the KBS C-Taper).  I ended up with the KBS C-Taper Stiff, which have roughly the same FCM as the PX 5.5 (6.3 vs 6.0).  As your fitter said that the numbers look good you should trust him, unless you have a very quick tempo and load the club at the start of your downswing (but then your numbers would have been all over the place).

Remember that most golfers buy clubs off the rack that are too stiff as they want to be Macho.  A Project X 5.5 is a Stiff shaft, and with your 6 iron speed it should be fine.

    Hi Jake,
It sounds like you may have been fit by Jason?
Jason is a very experienced fitter so we're quite confident that you were not fitted incorrectly.  Your numbers look great so you can most definitely find confidence in that.

That being said, if you are still not confident in the selection, Chris Welton (Lead Fitter at the Titleist National Fitting Centre) will be on site the following Golf Town locations over the next couple of days:
    Friday, Feb 28- Whitby 2-4 & Scarborough 5-7
    Saturday, March 1- Barrie 10-12 & Woodbridge 1-3
    Sunday, March 2- Markham 10-12 & Aurora 1-3

Fittings are by appointment only and must be booked through Golf Town in advance.

    We hope this helps Jake!
    Cheers,
