This ball even spells out "Durable Titleist" on the side of the ball. Maybe they have had multiple descriptions for the same acronym over time?

A couple of years ago, I found a Titleist Tour Balata on a local course, no cuts on it at all. The latter being more impressive than finding it in the first place.

I keep it on my desk alongside a test ball from being sent a sleeve a while back as keepsakes.

Found an old 1949 newspaper ad for the Dynamic Tread. Wow! That's even before my time. I know this version with the actual DT stamped on it was always marketed as the Durable Titleist with a surlyn cover at the same time you could get the high end balata ball. Always nice to get a history lesson older than I am.

Hey guys ... Chuck and Dale ... right here on the Titleist website it states that DT stood for "Durable Titleist" ... it is part of the "Quiz" that you can find on the homepage. They do offer a multiple choice selection and one of the other selections is "dynamite thread" ... but they clearly state that the correct answer is Durable Titleist.

It is a neat little quiz and I liked reading through it - lots of interesting little Titleist related trivia and information tid-bits!

I just thought I'd add that I've played a number of classic Titleists this season. I usually head out to the local Goodwill once or twice in the year, and pick up whatever they have for balls for practice.
The course I've been playing crosses a river twice, so I generally use something from that lot on those holes, as the swearing from drowning a Pro V-1 is not pleasant for others to hear. This has given me the opportunity to try out, over the years, just about every competitor's ball, but to play some really cool old Titleists. This past season I've played HVC Tours, DT 90's, Professionals, DT TrueSofts, a few others I can't think of off the top of my head, and even the Tour Balata. Know what? Even at 20+ years old, they still perform as good as many of their contemporary competition! And, for me, it's a nice walk down memory lane (I'm sure we all see an old ball now and then, and it brings back memories), too. You know, things like playing with Dad as a kid, my one and only hole in one, my past successes and failures, friends and playing partners that have come and gone, things like that.
Tee up an old DT 90, and you'll see what I mean...

Thanks for resurrecting this old thread. Read Dino's comment above. All the balls were wound back then. All were originally balata covered and then Titleist introduced the DT "Durable Titleist" in a surlyn cover that was harder to cut, although I still managed to tear up a few. They actually stamped the full name on some of the earlier models including the one i posted in the first picture. All their balls had dynamite thread although I suspect they were really just rubber. :) Hey, just glad the new ones are solid and we have so many great options. Hit'm straight and stay safe.

Played DT 90's from the late 1980's 'til I started with Pro V1's and the DT stood for Durable Titleist during that time.

We are showing our age, but the ads in the magazines and tv all said durable Titleist.

I found one that is stamped 'DT 2-Piece'.
