Last week got an invite from a local Pro about doing a tour ball fitting at his course. I know the pro pretty well and he knows how loyal I am to Titleist so he reached out to me. I've done a ball fitting before but it's been a while since I've done it and thought this would be a good opportunity to try the new balls that have come up.
Today I play the ProV1 mostly b/c I love the feel. Period. The fitter was well aware. So remember I said that.....
4 balls were available ProV1, ProV1x, - ProV1x and AVX. We hit short game (70-100 yards), 7 Iron, driver and then chipping both fringe and rough. It was a good fitting b/c I was striking the ball so no hesitation on what the results was gonna be.
We started with the ProV1 and the fitter ended up ruling out the ProV1x after seeing the spin rates were too high on the ProV1. After the ProV1 tested the - ProV1x and then AVX. 45 plus minutes going between the 3.....
FINAL RESULTS: dash ProV1x
Why: Lower spin, better launch and better landing angle.
My reaction: WHAT?!?!?!
I was shocked after what I considered a solid fitting that the dash ProV1x was the better ball. I know I'm all about feel since I love that soft feeling but the results speaks more, Trackman numbers don't lie. And when chipping around the green, I really didn't notice a big difference. Couldn't believe it.
Conclusion: Get fitted and be open.
Looks like I need to get rid of these ProV1s and move onto the dash ProV1x...
