Disappointing Golf Ball

I recently purchased a down of the Tour speed golf balls. I didn’t watch any reviews on them before the purchase. After purchase I watched some reviews and was nervous at the consistent complaint of the cover holding up terrible. I took them out and within 2 holes had to switch my starter ball because of the knicks in the cover of the golf ball. It didn’t get any better on the next one either. I eventually just gave the dozen to my buddy and went back to playing the Pro V. This is the first product I have throughly been disappointed with that Titleist has made. Has anyone else tried these and seen the same results?

  2. Same. It stays on the face of the wedges like the old zynthane on the Top-Flite Z-balatas or Strata balls

Sorry that the ball didn't work out for you, but in the future, I would purchase just a sleeve of balls to try. Pro V's are the best ball in all aspects.

    That’s actually a brilliant idea.

No, because I was fit by Titleist for the correct ball.. Now before that, I would just buy a sleeve and work from the green to the tee testing them out. Folks need to get out of the review mentality and test thing for themselves, your feel is not going to be my feel, nor the next thousand golfers! Good luck!

So it’s not so much of a “review mentality” but it’s nice seeing others experiences with them. I am taking your advice and will try a ball fitting I have it scheduled for tomorrow
  7. I shred every ball a play with. Tour Speed and Tour Soft both are too soft and pick up too much spin off a mishit. I find that the Pro V1x Left Dash hold up the best out of all Titleist Balls. It sucks to know that even if I don't loose a ball during a round, I still go through at least 3 Titleist balls regardless. I think with current materials available, it is impossible to get perfect feel and spin on something that holes up. If I want to keep one ball the whole round, pretty much my only choice is a Noodle Long and Soft. Funny enough, my scores don't actually vary that much with the Noodle, I just play a bit different shots when closer to the green. Long story short, yes, Tear Tour Speed/Soft balls apart more quickly than the Pro Vs.

Wow- I used the Tour Speed this past summer and didn't encounter any of those problems. I am, however, in my mid-70's and have a fairly slow swing speed which maybe explains the difference in dings in the cover?

Different swings (attack angle, swing speed) and different clubs (grooves) definitely will affect ball covers differently. Back in the day of balata, especially with box/square groove irons, I could shred covers, and I definitely wasn't a high swing speed golfer. Interestingly, wet conditions significantly affected (for the worse) the cover shear!

It's tough to get all variables perfect for each golfer. I will say that current golf balls are much more durable than the best of the 'wound' balata balls of yesteryear. While ball pricing has certainly increased, I find that I can play a golf ball for many more holes now than I did with balata - unless I make an error and manage to lose the ball.
  10. Stay with Pro V ones if money is not an issue.

Love thdxAVX, and the Pro V in all varieties. I haven't had issues cover wise excepting the Left Dash but I can't confirm that as caused by contact and it was only an issue at a course with heavily sand based greens on Marylands Eastern Shore.

I had a smilier issue with the durability. Solid ball, but doesn't have the longevity.
  13. Try the new AVX. Long, straight, consistent around the green. Titleist technology keeps producing better golf balls.

I play a Prov1, but played the Tour Speed ball the summer with great results. My partner uses it all the time and he loves them. None of the issues mentioned in this post and he is a digger with his irons. Not the length I get with my Prov1. =)

I received two sleeves of the new AVX for testing. I played two rounds with the test balls and the results were OK. I normally play AVX yellow and hit them well, these new prototype AVX were basically the same off the tee but they were definitely hot off the irons and with a soft feel. They stuck to the greens with accuracy and minimal spin. They have the same soft feel as the Prov and Prov1X. I will definitely continue to use the AVX.
  16. I love prov1x's but I've found better results with the Bridgestone bxs ‍♂️
