I just recently received 6 AVX test balls from team Titleist to my home In Ireland.
It was a pleasant surprise to receive them along with a mug as this is the first time I have been included in a equipment review for Titleist.
However, I am conscious that this new model is now on sale and was wondering whether I should continue to test and complete using the QR code I was given or just enjoy playing the balls once the season begins here?
From initial testing the balls seem to feel more pro v1 “like” than the older model AVX and may be attractive to golfers who currently use ProV1 for feel and sound off the putter face.
I found no discernible difference off driver or irons to the old AVX with ball flight or distance and the most noticeable difference was the extra feel on and around the greens.
In comparison with the proV1 there still more roll out when chipping and playing flop shots on small greens but it looks like the previous gap between the two is now narrower with the new AVX cover.
In summary, i found the new ball is a step closer to the ProV1 and may appeal to some present V1 users but a noticeable gap still remains with “hop and stop” greenside
