What are thoughts on Tour Speed balls? When I heard the NXT line was cancelled I loaded up on NXT balls. I still have a ton left, but starting my search for a replacement. It seems Titleist has struggled looking for it's replacement. Several tests showed that it was very close performance wise to Pro V1 at a lower price point, now I see so many models made since seemingly to replace it.

NXT Tour and NXT Tour S are older versions of Tour Speed and Tour Soft. Titleist did not drastically change the material or manufacturing process of these balls when they renamed them. You should be getting the same feel and performance in this line of golf balls. Titleist is not struggling in any way.

Probably shouldn't say struggle, But from what I read I thought Tour Speed would be my NXT Tour replacement. Feel and sound is a little different. Close but not the same, and Tour Soft was even further away from what I am used to. AVX was brilliant, but I'm trying to stay in the mid price range as the NXT line was. (I'm a 13 hcp, so I still lose enough to care about price.) lol. Would you know why Titleist put in AVX in the mix, when ProV1, ProV1x, NXT Tour, NXT TourS, setup was so successful?
  4. I also use tour soft whats the best ball to use around 40 degrees?

I was sent a sleeve of Tour Speed from Titleist to evaluate and give feedback when they were first released. This was not a white box test scenario where I did not know what I was testing which I have also had the chance to participate in. It was clear to me after I evaluated the Tour Speed that it was going to become my preferred ball and I did switch to the Tour Speed. It provides the performance I am looking for. Have played Prov1, Prov1x, AVX in the past. It is really an individual choice.

Titleist has always tried to create golf balls that cater to all different types of golfers, handicaps, swing speed, etc. This new ball is no different. They have replaced two top performing balls (NXT/NXT Tour S) with this one ball. Titleist Tour Soft balls are looking to satisfy the golfers' need through just two layers. With the newly designed ionomer soft cover, which more golfers were asking for, the Titleist Tour Soft ball aims at producing more distance off the tee while still giving soft feel around the green. The previous urethane-cover limits distance off the tee for golfers with lower swing speeds.

Tour Speed Ball is underrated. One of the longest golf balls on the market, and can still hold the greens. On some days, I hit them longer that the Velocity.

I too have switched primarily to the tour speed. Also go between the tour speed. This time of year in Long Island i use the tour speed being a tad softer for the colder temps!

When I got back into golf in 2010, I started using the NXT balls. I loved how they played but did progress to the Pro V1 as I felt it was a better all-around golf ball. I have since played a few rounds with the Tour Soft & see some of the NXT characteristics & some of the DT as well. I think a person who enjoyed the NXT brand balls can find a very capable ball int eh Tour Speed or Tour Soft line. For lower ball flight they might progress up to the AVX and maintain the softness around the greens, but for the price point I'd do the Tour Line

Have to suggest that if you are good enough to discern the nuances of an older model NXT and the current replacements, you might just be good enough to simply play the best ball. Yes, $1 per ball can be a big difference if you lose 2 or 3 per round (you said 13 handicap so can't be losing more than that) but ultimately you are settling. And if you shop around you can find last years ProVs or logo over runs for very reasonable prices. A friend found logo over runs of last model AVX for under $30 per dozen, as an example.

Great suggestions. Never thought about over runs. I did get a box of Tour Speed and Tour Soft to try out whenever winter breaks. I only lose 2 or 3 per round but I'm looking to fill my Titleist Den Caddy which holds up to 15 dozen. Don't need balls yet (still have 4-5 dozen NXTs left) but it looks cool when it's full. Lol

In regards to over runs, Just checked out golfballs.com and golfballdirect.com. Anyone used them before?
