    Guys,

For someone between 24-30 handicap, do balls make a difference ?

What would you recommend for someone with swing speed of 100 and want soft feels in the short game area ?

    Thanks for sharing

If possible, I recommend a ball fitting, if available in your area. That's the best way to find the ball that suits your game.

Another is to take several sleeves of different flavors of Titleist balls on the golf course and compare for yourself side-by-side, then choose the one that you like best.

I was a 20+ handicap and I did a ball fitting and the recommendation was the Pro V1X and I've been playing that since 2013, and now I play the Left Dash version. I got down to a 9.7 at one point this year, you just have to keep practicing and playing. No matter how poorly or well I was playing, I always knew the ball would be the best, most consistent thing about my game. It's the only thing you use on every shot.

Without seeing your numbers, Tour Soft.

But you should try to go to a ball fitting event.

Get to a ball fitting and you'll see the difference..... Or get a sleeve of all the T balls and works your way back from the green to the tee!!
  5. Hello Andy!

I am also a high handicapper, and have often wondered the same thing. I have tended to bounce around between different balls from different manufacturers.

Still, I love this game and take my improvement seriously so I have decided to try and find a ball that works for me and that I then use consistently. It’s not a magic bullet of course and my swing flaws aren’t going to magically disappear. However, in my mind, there is some value, even for us higher handicappers, to find a ball that we can get used to and the way it performs. And I do believe there are some performance differences between balls even for players like us. I just posted a similar question on the TT Facebook page and based on the great comments, I am going to schedule a ball fitting with Titleist. I can’t recommend a specific ball to you but I’m sure some of the far more qualified folks on this forum can offer specific advice.

Of course I am no expert, so please take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

    Good luck!!

I would say it depends. Is your handicap high because you loose a lot of balls or do you not loose many but just have issues with scoring? If you loose a lot of balls and have a tight budget, maybe playing the lower price range ball like TruFeel would be better for now until you get more consistent. If you don't lose that many balls, playing sa high end ball will give you better results as your game improves. If you are strictly playing for fun and don't plan to ever get better, just play whatever ball you want and have fun with it. Strictly a personal choice. Enjoy.

    it's all subjective.

If you want to have a better understanding and feel for your game. I would definitely try and stick to a ball that you enjoy playing whether it be a price point you don't mind paying for a ball flight characteristic that you like to see.

Since I started playing my first pack of "expensive" golf balls were the ProV1X. For some reason, I stuck to them and used them during my short game practice. I built a understanding on how the ball react on around the greens and off the club face. To which I was able to translate that understanding over to the golf course.

Now when I have play other golf balls, including ProV1, I tend to notice differences. This game is about consistency and I do believe the golf ball plays a big role but is way to often over looked.

    Hey Andy,

The golf ball absolutely makes a difference - regardless of your handicap. When you think about it, the golf ball is the only piece of equipment you use on every shot and having the right ball for your game is the best way to play your best.

As Keith noted above, a golf ball fitting is a great way to get dialed in but if there isn't an event in your area, you can also chat one-on-one with our fitting experts with a virtual consultation. These are live video chats that mirror the initial conversation you would have with one of our fitters if you were at the course.

This includes an in-depth assessment of your game, analyzing performance objectives and personal preferences. At the end of the call, the fitter will provide recommended Titleist golf ball models that you can test on the golf course.

You can book one here: www.titleist.com/.../golf-ball-fitting

    Hello Andy,

Agree 100% with what Mike and Keith said. I've been fortunate to have been fitted a few times and it's interesting how the results are different. Same club, same swing and each ball I tested I got different results and then they recommended what ball would be best for me.

I will say I do not play the ball they recommended. I'm actually playing the 2nd best ball which was the left dash. The ball they did recommend was the AVX. One reason I switched was feel. I enjoy the feel more of the left dash versus the AVX. One thing I did lose was distance (a little more spin on the left dash) with the AVX but not much. Been playing left dash ever since and love it.

If you can find a place to get fitted or do the one on one virtual consolation that Mike provided, it's a great way to get started to find the right ball for you. Best of luck!
  10. The ball makes a big difference, if you play a hard ball you will not stop a short shot or have feel with your putter. I like how the AVX ball plays.

I don't believe a ball with a lot of spin will benefit a high handicapper. Tour Soft is a very good compromise between harder and too soft of golf ball. When you become more consistent you could move to the AVX ball (my favorite).

Regardless of the ball you select, be it based on price or performance, using the same ball will help you know what to expect with good ball contact. You don’t want a 75 yard pitch to go between 60 and 90 yards based on the ball characteristics. As can happen when the last ball you found is the next ball you hit. With a higher swing speed, maybe a Velocity?

Am 76 and a high handicapper. Playing currently to a 17. I went to a ball fitting years ago and am currently playing the Prov1. At my age I have my good and bad days on the golf course but when I hit the golf ball correctly that Prov1 is very pure and most of the time it stays in the middle where it is supposed to go. Our course has undergone a major renovation and now has Seth Raynor type bunkers and greens and one little mistake and you can easily make a triple bogey. The designer took his type greens and put them on very small greens. My handicap has gone up a bit. Back to the ball when I play away at other courses I can count on it doing exactly as I expect, the yardage, the bounce, the spin and most of all what it will do on the greens. A fitting is always a good way to go.
  14. I started off playing 50 cent balls. Found a Prov1X in the rough at Torrey Pines, it was like magic, ball went so high and far and held greens. Huge difference

If you're losing 6 or more balls per round, go with the low cost option. If it's a matter of a sleeve per round and you're hitting some bad shots and /or doing some 3-putting, a better ball is an option. Above all, get instruction from a PGA Professional. An investment in your game that's well worth the money.
  16. How do I know that my ProV1 golf balls are made in 2023 not last years stock???

Normally the alignment arrow will be different and they will not be released until January 25th. The boxes labeling usually change.
  18. Maybe look at the alignment line?

Try a few rounds with a higher tier ball and compare it with how you play/feel with a lower tier. That should give you your answer. The other thing is doing an actual ball fitting…
