I am curious, are these simply logo overrun balls that have the logos covered up, or is the dot used for something else?

I have also seen balls with two smaller but still sizable black circles at golf ball fittings, what is the significance there? Is it simply to make them easier to distinguish from regular range balls or is there a measuring device that uses them to capture data like spin rate?

It's kinda like the crop circles. They just appear one day and nobody knows why.
Seriously, your hunch is right. The black dot covers a logo, and it's as good as a new ball.

$5 on blacked out logo balls. Noting the mix of V and X balls, they must be from a secondary source/reseller.

The dot is just a black stamp over a logo, which I "guess" can't be resold due to copyright issues.

Those are Titleist Fitting balls. The dot is for launch monitor

Those are balls that are used for fittings. I was given a handful to take with me to test during my last fitting.

Well that mystery comes to a end. Fitting golf balls. TT solves another one.

I don't doubt the fitting explanation, although when I did my fitting it was with the practice Pro V1s, that's just what my club uses.

They look like logo overrun balls that I remember back in the day were in a bin by the checkout at Golfsmith before they went bankrupt.

I recall them at Golfsmith too, and they were named Logo overruns.

Those would appear to be blacked out logo balls. For fittings I’ve seen balls with a smaller red or black circle on the side to allow for easier sorting when collected. At the US Mid Am this past summer st Erin Hills I was stationed in the range and the balls had a side stamp of TOUR in red or black to allow for easier sorting when collected and rebadged - Red Bag was Pro V1x and Black bag was Pro V.
  11. They are 100% logo overruns. With some goo gone or some alcohol, you can remove the black dot to see what logo was under it. The ones I've had have been higher end courses.

Logo overruns. I live in Michigan and Carl's here always has them in bulk to purchase. If you don't mind the aesthetics of it, they are brand new and ready to go.
