"pured" shafts?

    I'm a 4 handicap and I'm definitely looking at getting fit for a new set of either 712 mb's or cb's, or maybe a combo set when they come out. They look sweet, and I'm definitely due for an upgrade. (I currently play 762's from '02)

    I'm wondering if anybody has had experience with getting their shafts "pured" and if you could provide feedback. (did you notice a difference, was it worth it, etc.)  Also if anybody has happened to upgrade from 762's to the 710 mb or cb and can provide some thoughts that'd be great.

    A friend of mine spent some extra money (and time) and had this done to his entire set, and as far as I know it has not made one bit of difference, for him.  I'm not saying that the process is BS, but I haven't seen any evidence that would make me want to do it.

    I can't answer your question on the pured shafts but I have recently purchased the 710MB's. The irons themselves are beautiful and when hit pured there is no better feel. My previous set of irons was a used set of 690 MB's and I have had pretty good success with them. The only problem that I have is that my 710 MB's are approximately 10 to 15 yards shorter. That being said I don't think that I was properly fitted. My 690's have rifle 6.5 shafts and my 710's have the S300 shafts, and after talking to a pro and reviewing some of the differences between the S300 and the rifle shafts I believe that this is the difference.

    Paul I think you are correct, I went from 962 S300 to 990b rifle 6.5 and had a definite distance increase, more accuracy, the ball flight keeps going up and out then drops, instead of a normal curve. Of course all this could be because of the clubhead. But with the rifle I don't need sensicore.

    I believe it is more psychological at this point...technology has come a long way and I do not feel it is that critical unless it makes you "feel" more confident. You will not notice the difference In my opinion.

    Ryan,

    The Titleist Golf Club R&D group has conducted testing with tour and better players to compare performance between shafts that have been PURE'd and shafts that have not.  We have never been able to see or measure any performance difference whatsoever.  Therefore, we do not feel the PURE process adds any performance improvement or value.

    I guess I'll be saving some bucks and not getting anything pure'd.

    Still can't wait to hit those 712 mb's and cb's. When will club fitters have them available to fit with?

    Purring or spinning an existing set may not help that much. Frequency matching for consistent flex may. The frequency changes when the shaft is rotated and rechecked. If shaft sets were perfect life would be perfect. I spine shafts then put the neutral bend point ( opposite the spine ) down the target line. Then frequency the shaft. Adjust or hand pick shafts that provide consistent increase frequency as the set progresses to the higher lofted shorter clubs. We all have sets of irons with one or two " go to " clubs. Those clubs fit your particular swing best. Matching the rest of the set to those clubs makes all the set the same for you. The longer irons and drivers make the most difference.
