Rogue Shaft to lower ball flight?

  1. Hi, I recently bought a 915 D2 with 9.5 degrees of loft and a rogue silver 60 stiff flex shaft.  my ball flight is extremely high with the shaft and am wondering if switching to an X-stiff would lower the flight without giving up forgiveness on mishits.  my swing speed is in the 110-112 area.  alternatively, would the heavier black rogue make any sense?\

    Thanks for the help.

Try setting the loft to 8.75 and lowering your tee a bit.  If I want to hit a lower ball I move it back a little in my stance and tee it lower. That seems to work for me.  I play a Rogue Black 70 stiff and my swing speed is about 93 and my loft is set at 10.25 for maximum carry.

To control my flight I move it back in my stance a little and tee it lower.  Works for me.  You can also lower the loft to a 8.75*.

You might want to try a different shaft. The Rouge Silver shaft has a low/mid launch which actually helps you hit the ball higher. You may benefit from a shaft with a high launch which will help you hit the ball lower.

On my 913D2 driver I had two low/mid launch shafts which I used. Hit them both the same distance but changed from time to time when I perceived one was giving me a problem. On my 915 D2 driver I went with the Rouge Black in a stiff shaft with a mid launch with the hope of lowering my ball flight a little. When I went through the testing there was not much difference in the distance I hit both drivers. Also keep in mind the 915 was designed to carry the ball further with less spin. My spin rate with the 915 is lower than what it was with the 913. I do agree with other comments about moving the ball back in your stance to hit the ball a little lower. I do this when hitting into a strong wind. I have also lowered the loft by moving from the A1 setting to the C1 setting which is the same thing I did with my 913. I have a tendency to hook the ball.

Hope this information helps you come up with some solutions.

Have 915d2 10.5 rogue black 60 stiff shaft and not getting height on drives that I would like and have tried various settings. I saw Terry's comment above that low/mid launch rogue silver might actually help me hit the ball higher. Thoughts? I'm Titleist through and through. Thanks. Pete B

I have a 915D2 with a Aldila Rogue Black 70 (mid launch) set at 10.25 set at one half degree open and I can hit the ball high enough to get the maximum carry to get the distance I need.  My fitter set me up with this combination before I purchased it and it has worked great for me.    I can adjust my how high I hit my drive based on the ball position in my stance.   I am 69 and hit the ball around 250.  Not a long hitter, but am rather accurate.

Thanks Chuck. I appreciate the insight. I set my 10.5 up one and over one to 11.25 at C4 yesterday and had some good results. I will stay there for a bit and try to dial it in. Love all my titleist equipment.

Hi Peter,  Just to clarify some of the terminology - low/mid launch will mean that it launches the ball low to mid.  low/mid flex point will mean that it launches the ball mid to high.  The Rogue Silver shaft (on a robot) will launch the ball lower than a Rogue Black.  If you are looking for a shaft that launches higher than the Rogue Black, you might take a look at the M+60 or the M+70 Red, the Bassara 50 or 55 shaft or even a lighter weight S+Blue shaft.

Thanks much Cathi. Had some better results yesterday at 11.25 set at C4. If I can't dial that in I will take your suggestions to a fitter nearby and give em shot.

I ran into the same problem. I switched to a Tour AD shaft and I hit the ball significantly better

Jim, I figured that you have already tried the D1 & C1 settings on your driver. IMO the black having a softer tip than the silver will launch higher with more spin. Going to the X flex silver with the firmer tip will launch lower & reduce your spin for a lower overall height. Titleist will send demo shafts to your local Titleist fitter for you to try out. With you saying your flight is extremely high, I would think the stock silver 70x may be a better option for lowering your flight.

Rogue shafts are not as good as I though. I switched to Project X (73g) and never looked back

    Jim O!

My swing speed is in that same ball park and I got fitted this year at Titleist's National Fitting center at Eagles Nest and was fit with the Rogue Black 70X D3. I used to struggle with too much SPIN off the tee and my ball flight was high and spinny. I kept the loft at 9.5 and have reduced my spin by 1500-2000 rpm. I swear by this shaft and absolutely love it.

The thing is... I was fit for this. Everyone's got a different transition point/tempo... Getting fit professionally will allow you to see same time results without having to second guess and I think that's worth every pennie. To answer your question, a heavier and stiffer shaft should help reduce ball spin which should help dispersion. Hope this helps,

I have the 915 D2 9.5 degree set at 11 degrees with the Rogue Silver 60 X Stiff 3.1 shaft. My club head speed is 98mph but I load the shaft well. Before this driver I always hit a Stiff 60-70 gram shaft that would balloon my ball flight. With this new driver/shaft setup I can keep my ball flight lower, reduce spin and hit it farther with control.
