I have two sets of used ap2's, I know common sense is to hit both and note the difference. I'm looking for feedback from people who have/have not made the switch to 716 and why, pros and cons, thanks in advance.

  2. I found no difference in actual distance but the 716 were slightly more forgiving on miss hits but I will be honest I preferred the looks on the 714.

I did upgrade to the 716s however as performance wise they were marginally better
  3. Mainly for me on not switching was price not having the money and I play a combo set. I do ap2/mb. I have hit the 716 and they felt fantastic just used to my 714 right now plus I like the look of the older model. Look forward to seeing the 718.

I still have my 714 AP2 irons and use them when traveling by air (checking clubs). I moved to the 716 AP2 irons shortly after they came out. Still like both. Do notice a difference in foregiveness with the 716 AP2 irons. Great feel. I also play with a set of 716 AP1 irons from time to time and see some increase in distance and foregiveness.

I jumped from AP2's 710's to 716's. Not sure I can help. I can say that I did get fitted for the 716's and had the extra confidence with them.

716 feels softer to me, but I only gained a few yards over the 714. I'm an MB guy, so I only hit 30-40 balls with each AP2. Slightly different shaft in each, but my ball flights were the same......Can't go wrong either way....
  8. 714's in my opinion. I just liked the feel more.

My #1 problem with used clubs is finding a set with a shaft that best matches my swing. In your case, if the setup is the same and there is $200 difference, is 3-5 yards difference, length and dispersion worth that much? I have 716 AP1s and a 917 D2, upgraded from 714 irons and 913 D2. But in both cases, getting fit to a different setup was by far and away the biggest difference in improvement. The 716 didn't show much difference on the same (ill-fitting) shaft.

    Thanks for all the feedback
  11. In general the 716 AP2s have more forgiveness in the long irons and a slightly lower trajectory for the short irons versus the 714s.

I have 714s, and chose not to switch to 716s.

    I'm waiting for the 718s.
  12. Recently switched to 716 AP1s. Gained a few yards, which is always nice, but the best thing was that they are accurate - target, target, target. This is especially important in the scoring irons where distance from 100 yards out is a non-factor because it's accuracy that's crucial.

  13. I've had the 714s since they were brand new. Never found a reason to change until the T-100 came out. The same as the 714s but better in many ways.
