  1. Just had a great fitting with Steve Cox at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. We are going with AP1 irons and Tensei Pro Red graphite shafts, standard grip and length. If I don't specify a swing weight, will the default build be at D1, even with graphite? On the website, the stock shafts are AMT Red (95 grams) and Tensei (69 Grams). Isn't that about a 3 swing weight difference? I'm enjoying the learning curve here. Thanks.

Bill, not sure the exact swing weight, Cathi or one of the Titleist folks can weigh in (pardon the pun) on that. I have those shafts on my 718 T-MB set and really like them a lot. I think you will enjoy them too.

Unspecified, Titleist will build irons at D2-D3. You can request D1 if you prefer.

    Bill,
According to the brochure on this website 718 APIs are built with a D1 swingweight.
It doesn't note a difference between the Tensei graphite or steel.

HI Bill, You are right - we will build 718 AP1 irons with either the Tensei or the AMT Red (and stock grip) at D1 if not specified otherwise.
  6. I just ordered a standard length 718 Ap1 5 iron with regular size CP2 wrap grip and Steelfiber stiff shaft. Swingweight is C8. Shouldn't it be D0 or D1??

Hi Tom, Swingweight is not only the total weight, but the balance of the weight - whether the weight is closer to the head or the grip. The Aerotechs build slightly lighter due to the balance of their weight. If you had an Aerotech i80 or i95 S and did not specify swingweight, the target build on those specifications would be C9.

The difference in weight between these shafts would suggest an approximate 3 point swing weight difference, however the actual difference depends upon the distribution of the weight within the shaft so it is possible the swing weight could be similar between these two shafts. Always best to specify your desired swing weight and if Titleist can't meet it they will advise you.
