I've just been reading a discussion by someone who is not quite satisfied with Titleist equipment. All I can say is, more power to you, go do what you want to do.

I've been on a sabbatical leave from golf until about 5 years ago. I used to play twice a week, with a few practice sessions in-between. Never ever got really really super good like the guy says he is. Best I shot in those days (late 20's early 30's) were low 80's. I think 79 was the best I shot. Kids and family came first, thus the sabbatical. When I came back to golf at age 60, my kids gave me a few bucks to buy new irons. Buying Titleist clubs was out of my budget when I first started to play golf. The kids gave me the money since I sacrificed golf for their college education.

When I bought new 714 AP1s, I was the happiest cat in town, such forgiveness to give me confidence to keep pursuing and not quitting because of frustration. Got rid of the cheap ball I was buying, went with Titleist balls, guess what scores gets lower, confidence builds. New metals, not long, just in the fairway most of the time unless I over do it, more confidence. Think I need new irons, guess what, pulled the plug. 718 AP3s baby, Watching the ball fly today is really unreal. Thing about it is, when I miss hit, I know its all me and not the clubs or ball. Its me. I don't have that dumb-founded look like some pros do when they miss-hit. When I putt, Scotty's there, some birdies, don't have to beg for it to fall in, its all me. When I chip, Volky is there too. So far, 2 birdie chip ins and many close ones. Guess I'm sticking with Titleist. I wonder how many of those long drive champions put the ball in the middle of the fairway or where they are aiming at.

Oh, forgot to say that along the way these last 5 years I won a Dozen balls (pro v1x), a T-shirt, Lanyard. Oh, also a bag tag. I wonder what the competitors would have giving me, besides stuff saying newest latest greatest after 6 months. My equipment is good for the next 5 years or so. Maybe when I buy new clubs, I'll see what the competitors send me before I buy Titleist.

    Happy trails.......

Mark ... great post. My experience has mirrored yours to a similar degree, golf, sabbatical/parenting, back to golf! I too had similar thoughts as you regarding buying Titleist clubs, but for me, I wanted to go to a nice forged club and that is what led me to the 714 AP2s. Now, I'm going to a Titleist Thursday to demo some of the 718 irons and see how things go from there! Thanks for sharing!

I have used a local retailer and a national retailer. In both cases, I was fit to off the rack iron sets or woods. Only the National retailer had a PGA for lessons, but their "trained technicians" handled fittings. Old guys (60) didn't get a priority with the 20-something kids, even when $$ is not the issue. I truly did not know Titleist had Premier fitting centers but managed to pick one for a truly personal fitting (not the only LH GI iron set in the corner). The fitter was a PGA, he went through various png and Titleist heads and shafts. We settled on an AP1 714. He became my coach 7 years ago and still my go-to guy. I know Titleist takes it on the chin every other year when they don't have a new release, but if each new driver added 10 yards, I'd be over 300 yards with a tm since I got my first 910. What I do have is products and professionals to support me every year. Better than shiny new clubs every year available through direct purchase or from store inventory. I agree Mark, it's what works for me, not just to go by a bunch of gear heads talking about what's new that never seems to change their HCP.

Great stuff Mark! Thanks for sharing.. And hope life is good in Hawaii! My favorite island to visit!
  5. Same here Mark. They can have all those fancy names and stuff. Titleist takes care of their customers. Nice surprises in the mail also. Been to a couple Titleist Thursday’s. What other company does this and have forums for us enthusiasts. Way to go TT and Titleist. Made the switch last summer and never thought my game would be this good. Have all the confidence I need.

Well said! I could not agree more. There will always be outliers. I always consider is one unfortunate experience the norm or an anomaly. I have never experienced a company that treats its customers as well as Titleist. Definitely a lifer here.

Titleist clubs are the highest quality, no extra unneeded bells and whistles. My Titleist clubs perform the way I expect them to, shot after shot. I have tried other clubs but always stay with Titleist.
