Stock AP1 718 iron set

    I was recently gifted a set of 718 AP1's I have been playing Tommy Armour 845s since a sophmore in college. I play anywhere from 10-20 rounds a year here in the northeast and just try to break 90. 20-22 handicap and I am wondering if I should 100% return the clubs and go get fitted for proper shafts/lie and loft or if the stock with suffice my needs of just going out and having a good time on the course.

    I am a laymen. I would say go to a Titleist Thursday in your area and work with the TITLEIST fitter. Secondly, what will be your goals that you would want to accomplish.
    If your goal is to break 90, 85, 80, with the Qualified Titleist fitter, he/she should be able to guide you towards your goal. With practice and playing time, and maybe a shaft change the lower scores will come.

    Straight up, the AP1s are probably a good iron for you, but since you have questions about the shaft and lie angle see if you can find a Titleist Thursday event close you and book an iron fitting (it's free). Take your current gamers (845s) and go through the process to see what the fitter recommends. It's the best way to find out if the stock AP1s are right for you as is.

    I bought a set of stock AP1’s after trying out AP2’3, AP3’s and absolutely love them.
    Be sure to get some 818’s to balance top of range. I went with 5-48 degree wedge irons and then filled out with 23 degree hybrid and 19 degree with 917 fairway wood. Saving up for new driver!

    getting fit for my clubs completely transformed my game. While I am not aware of your situation I highly recommend being fit by a certified Titleist fitter. You can keep the cost down if you can find a titleist Thursday near you they are free to attend.

    Anytime you can get fit you increase your chances to play better. Thid5he fit might end up matching you with these AP1’s so do that first before return trading in. Look for a Titleist Thursday fitting session near you. Good luck.

    I would get fit.....I have a combo set of 718 AP1/AP3....just replaced a set of 710 AP1s.....shafts were the same but loft and lie were different, glad I got fit again....in the long run you will be much happier with clubs fit to your swing.

    Try to find a Titleist Thursday near you and get an iron fitting. Have the fitter evaluate a stock AP1 and compare it to the club that would be your best fit. If it isn't far off, keep what you have and enjoy!

    Speaking as a certified fitter, I have only ever seen a very few people that fit perfectly off the shelf.

    Go get fitted.
