I just played my second round with my new irons and all i can say is wow thanks Titleist for making a great product. This was my first fitted clubs and now i see what i have been missing out on.

  2. I just recently bought a set of 718 AP1s 6-PW & 48. I demo'd them back in the spring and found I prefered the AMT Red in Regular Flex. My current/previous irons were 714 AP1s with the X95 shafts, which I really loved.

I found that the AMT Red got the ball up a little faster it seemed, and the ball feel of the 718s is just a little better than my 714s. Beyond that I didn't feel like I made a monster upgrade, but rather an incremental upgrade.

The sexy factor of the New AP1s is off the chart though...LOL That WAS a factor in pulling the trigger on the new irons.
  3. I have just purchased a set of 718 AP1, 4-PW, with the AMT Red R300 shafts. This set replaces my 714 AP1, with the XP 95 shafts.l had no chance to try them out before purchase, but can anyone tell me what the difference between the two shafts are please.
  4. MPriest... see my post/reply below about the AMT Reds.
  5. I can tell you what the Rep at the demo event told me... since we both played the 714 with the x95 prior...

The AMT Reds help give the ball a higher launch, (which I'd add from my experience "gets the ball up... faster" not just a bit higher).

AMT stands for Ascending Mass Technology. If I remember what the rep said correctly, the shafts are weighted differently from tip to butt for each type of iron and this helps give each club a more consistent feel as far as weighting and a better launch into the air. The X95R found on yours and my older 714s is a standard design shaft.

Here's what True Tempers website says about the AMT Red shafts:

"AMT Red is the lightest weight and highest trajectory/spin option in the new AMT range. Out of the AMT range, AMT Red maximizes speed and launch most by utilizing a responsive tip design and maintaining a constant superlight weighting in 4-7 irons. Focusing more on precision and control from 8-iron through wedge, AMT Red is designed with Ascending Mass Technology—making each shaft progressively heavier by 3-gram increments as golfers move to shorter irons. This unique blend of superlight weighting in 4-7 irons and AMT weighting in the scoring clubs allows AMT Red to offer both power and precision."

The website spec sheet states that the balance point from tip to butt ranges from 20.20inches for a 4 iron to 18.3inches for a wedge. So each shaft is more tuned to the type of iron it's being used in.

    Hope that helps...
  6. Great help in understanding the difference between shafts, many thanks for taking the time to reply.

Do you know your clubhead speed? Where I live there is no club fitting whatsoever. I'm in between red and black, I guess. Thanks a lot. My 7i chs is around 86mph and carry distance is 148y avg, with regular shafts.
  8. My swing speed was measured and my average is 98mph. I'm using the AMT Red in Regular flex on my AP1s. I had stiff flex on my irons two sets ago, but my 714s and my new 718s are regular.
  9. People who have never been fitted have no idea how much a difference it makes. Once you have been fitted, you will never buy a set of irons again without it. Same thing for golf balls. People who think they are all the same, and there are lots of guys out there, have no idea.

Have you found increase distances with these irons? For me it was crazy the amount of distance and forgiveness I picked up.
  11. Hi, which clubs you had before?
I’ve been playing for almost a year, and I’m 20 hcp and I have 716AP2 and after reading this forum I don’t know if change my clubs to 718AP1 or 718CB

I did pick up about 8 yards or so. But the biggest difference is on the miss hits the distance is close to the same unless you hit it in the heel
  14. Thinking about ordering the AP1 718 irons with the lofts 2* weaker. Exp: Pw 45* instead of std 43*. How will this affect the bounce ? Thanks
