Serial Numbers on Clubs

  1. I bought two 816H hybrids online yesterday from an authorised Titleist reseller, both clubs arrived today, one has a serial number stamped on it while the other one does not.

having a club with no serial number has set alarm bells off and I'm thinking I've been sent a counterfeit club. I contacted the retailer in question and I was told that all standard stock clubs will have a serial number (makes sense) but club heads that have been allocated for custom stock wont have a serial number as the full spec of the club is not known at time of manufacture.

The retailer advised me that as the 816 range is no longer in production, he believes they took stock of some ex-custom stock from Titleist that haven't been fully built so they have not been stamped with a serial number.

I'm not 100% convinced with this reply, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

If it's from the same order/build only one will have the serial number I believe. Last time I ordered a full set the following had serial numbers. Driver, 3 wood, 1 of 2 hybrids, 6 iron & 5 iron of (5-PW, 5 iron specs different from the rest of the set) and 2 of 3 Vokeys. If you ordered them from an authorized retailer I wouldn't worry about it unless the retailer looked shady LoL

The counterfeits normally have serial numbers. Usually, a whole lot all with the same serial number. The lack of a serial number is not defining. An actual authorized re-seller has a lot to lose to let a counterfeit item get into their inventory. You should be able to get them to authenticate it or return it if in doubt.

Counterfeiters will make up fake serial numbers too so you can't think that just because it has a number on it, you are good to go. Best bet is to always buy first-hand current production items or items being cleared out for new stock from original providers. Resale and eBay will always be risky. That said, if you can't afford to, or can't pass up the deal, buy but know the risk is there that the item my be counterfeit and of sub-standard quality along with no warranty from Titleist.

Hi, The club heads should be stamped with serial numbers if you are purchasing in the US. Other countries may have different policies.
  6. If you send the serial numbers to Titleist can they confirm that they are authentic. ?

I recently bought some new AP1 718 Irons in the UK. (4 - PW) Custom fitted. I can confirm all my irons have a serial number on each iron.

Per my conversation with Cathi (who is very helpful and very nice) Titleist will only verify serial numbers on custom sets of clubs. In other words if the serial number is only on a 6 iron, they can not fully verify authenticity due to counterfeiters copying legit serial numbers on to fake clubs.
  9. Hi there I’ve just brought a set of ap3 irons and was just wondering is it only the 6 iron that’s stamped?
  10. From what I’ve been reading all over the internet is that if they were off the rack in a shop then only the 6 iron is stamped. If they are a custom fit order then all the irons would be.
Just got a 2nd hand set of AP2 716’s so have been trawling all the sites.
All my irons are stamped (Not etched) on the hozzle.

Hey gang. Just got a set of T200’s 5-48, and the 5 and 6 have one serial number and the 7-48 have another. This was built custom from Titleist from what I’ve been told, is that unusual to have different serial numbers for one set? Thanks in advance.

Found out the set was initially ordered 7-gw and then decided to get a 5 and 6 which would never have the same serial numbers. All is well.
  13. I just bought a set of 718 AP1's from cally Pre-owned and the 4,5 and 6 have one serial number and 7-pw have a different number.

For what it is worth, I've also read that the serial number will be etched on an authentic club. Counterfeits are most likely stamped. Also, isn't their a hologram on an authentic club?

My AP2 are custom built all with the same serial number whilst my previous set were standard AP1 and had the serial number on the 6 iron only.

My TS4 driver is custom built with a serial number, as is my TS3 4-wood. My 816 H2 hybrid was purchased via GolfBidder and has a serial number on too.

I would focus on looking at the build quality of the head, shaft and grip rather than serial number or lack of when determining if a club is fake or not.
  16. I recently bought a AP3 3 iron single brand new. When I got the club there no serial numbers should I be concern?
I have contact the Ebay Seller and has not heard back?

What should I do or does Ap3 does not have serial numbers
Any advice would be helpful here. Thank you

Not necessarily. You said you bought it "brand new" but AP line has been out of production for a while now so any "new" are retailer shelf stock or used. I think i have read that some full sets just put the serial number on the 6 iron and leave the others blank. A seller could have a 3-PW set and just selling the 3 iron if he never uses it. You could message them and ask. Beware of NYC and LA addresses on ebay sites as they usually bring stuff in from overseas and would be the most likely to sell fake ones. Hopefully you are good to go with this one.

Also you need to be cautious of fake serial numbers as well!!!
I typically never buy used unless I'm 1000000% sure it's real!!!

Bought a custom fitted set of T200 (4-48°), each club has a serial number stamped on it. Same for the driver, fairway wood and wedges.
  20. I have a tsi4 driver without a serial number. Has anyone seen a titlist club without a serial number. I used the driver next to a demo driverwith identical results, thanks in advanced

  23. I have just purchased a used Titleist u500 4 iron hybrid from a reputable Golf Retailer. It is fitted with a Graphite Design AD DI orange shaft. But their is no ID number on the hosel of the head of the Club.
The Retailer has informed me that if it was a custom club for previous owner that is why their is no ID number. Can someone please verify this ?

I have noticed that Titleist seems to have recently wavered from having the serial numbers on the 6-iron. I have purchased two 2021 T200 sets for my sons from an authorized dealer. The 5-AW T200 has the serial number stamped on the 5-iron. The 4-PW has the serial number stamped on the four iron. The AW has its own serial number.
  25. Hi guys,

I’m looking at a set of T200 4-48’ & I’ve got a little bit of a concern whether they are legit or not.
The heads look fine & they have had decent leather grips installed on each club. My concern is though the serial consists of 8 numbers… I thought Titleist serials were only 7 numbers???
