Morning all, looking for a bit of advice. I am a 16 handicapper playing a set of 716 AP1's which I love, I've recently had them re gripped by the pro & he kindly loaned me a set of clubs so I could go & out & play 18 whilst he was re gripping. He loaned me a set of MB's which are just gorgeous. I was hitting the shorter irons (Pitching, 9i, 8i) incredibly well with the MB's. The longer irons were a struggle & I completely understand why they are, what I'm getting at is have many people of my handicap switched to a combo set with bladed short irons & did they feel a benefit.

    Cheers,

    Will

  2. I'm a mid single digit handicapper in my early 50's. I have a combo AP2/AP3 set that I've been playing for about a year. I like the feel the forged short irons give me and there's enough forgiveness and high launch characteristics in the longer irons to make them a great fit for me.

One thing I'd caution you on though if you are going to a combo set is make sure you pay attention to the lofts of each of your clubs. Players irons like the MB tend to be bent a little weaker than player improvement irons like the AP1 or even AP3. I had to bend the AP3 one degree weak in the 7 iron and AP2 one strong in the 8 to get them to a 5 degree gap between clubs. Hope that helps. Good luck!
