Newer Club or Upgraded shaft??

    Hello fellow members,

    I have a question and I know the REAL answer would be to get fit for a specific club but I want opinions please. I am looking to upgrade my 915 hybrid and here is my dilemma. My buddy has an absolutely mint 816H1 with a Tour AD shaft and is willing to sell it to me for a steal BUT I was originally wanting the 818 based on looks ONLY. If the choice were up to you guys would you purchase the 816 with the sweet shaft (which also matches the shaft I just put in my TS3) and would save me some coin? or, purchase the newer version being the 818? just a fun survey.     I would take the 816 at a steal price and keep saving for the 818. I like having back up sets for traveling.

    Hey Chris... Not sure you have anything to loose. The upgraded shaft is worth the price of admission alone! Think of it as an ongoing club demo. Also check to see if the shaft adapter will work in the 818. If the deal is as good as you say then you can sell it later if you want the newer club.

    He is offering to sell it to me for $75. The shaft alone is worth more than that I would think.

    If it's a steal, buy the 816 and switch shafts, then get the 818 because liking what your looking down at is a big thing.

    I only replace the 816s the 818s because of a shaft change and loft change to better between my AP3s and fairways. They both have the closed slot on the bottom - a nice to have feature over the open slot of the 915. If you've hit and you like the feel and it hits your window, go for the 816. You'd almost have to actually steal the 816 if you wanted to replace the shaft, compared to the price of a complete 818.

    I have an 816 and I upgraded to an 818. I did this because I changed out my irons to AP3’s and I found that the H1 in the 818 with a different shaft worked better for me. I have to say that darker color and closed active recoil channel in the 818 reinforced my decision. The open channel on the 816 collects mud/turf and it was annoying to me. The 816 is a solid head and you cant go wrong there. Good Luck!
