  1. Hi. I just got a new ts2 driver with tensei blue stiff shaft. I am trying to cut my shaft down to 45" from standard length. So far, i have researched that every 1/2" cut, i need to add 2g of weight on the head bc i am losing 3 pts or something. Then do i need to get that red +2g surefit weight and replace it with what i have now? Will it be enough for weekend golfer?

Or Do i need to bring the shaft flex down to regular and then do the same procedure? Thank you for any of your help?

Cutting from the butt end won't change the flex. Changing to the R flex will impact the flight - don't do that. Will choking down a half inch work?

You are correct that for each 1/2" inch cut off the shaft the swing weight will be reduced 3 points, however, swing weight will increase 1 point for each two grams added, thus, you need to replace your current weight with the +6g weight to offset the 3 point reduction. As Don states cutting down the shaft from the butt end won't effect the flex and so if you still want to maintain the same stiffness all will be fine as you make your changes. You should also remember that for each 1/2 inch you cut the playing lie will one degree flatter.

When I got fitted for the TS2, I was told by the Titleist fitter that if I wanted to shorten the shaft by 1/2" to 45", then would need to replace the weight with the +2 gr weight.

As per the following post and reply you need the +6g to replace the 3 swing weight points you lose by reducing the club length 1/2 inch. Also as noted below you can increase swing weight by using a lighter grip- 5 grams - 1 point

Hi, on your webpage you state that additional heavier and lighter weights sold separately for the surefit weights. How much heavier weights can you buy ? I would like to take an 1 1/2" off the driver and try to keep the swing weight around standard.
    Thanks

    Answer from Titleist:
I am assuming you are inquiring about the TS weights. We have weights that are -2grams, -4grams, +2gr, +4gr and +6gr. When you cut a driver down 1.5", you will be removing more swingweight than we can replace by using weights (approx 8-10 swingweights). The +6gr will only give you another 3 swingweights so you will also have to use a lightweight grip such as a 25 gram grip, which will give you an additional 5-6 swingweights. The combination should bring you close to a standard swingweight

Reading the other comments, I have a couple questions.
I got fitted for the TS2 driver with the Tensei stiff 55 shaft. When I purchased, I had them install the MCC+4 grip with 4 wraps. You mention lighter grips affect the swingweight, so is there a reason to change the weight with the MCC+4 grip?
Also, I have a Matrix X5 White Tie 50 gram shaft from my old 915 D2 that I got pretty good numbers with during the fitting with the TS2 head. It is 1/2" shorter and also has the MCC+4 grips. If I use that shaft how does it affect the head weight?
    Thanks

If you requested a specific swing weight when you ordered your clubs with the MCC Plus4 with an additional 4 wraps Titleist would have built to the swing weight requested, however, if you didn't specify a swing weight then Titleist would build as normal so your clubs could be approximately 1-1/3 lighter than the target swing weight for your clubs. I say could because there a manufacturing tolerance when manufacturers build clubs which could offset the effect of the additional wraps or increase the difference from specs. If you are concerned with the swing weight have it measured and adjust head weight as required to meet your desired swing weight- e.g if it is 2 points points lower add 2 grams to the head weight for each point for a total of 4 grams- do the opposite if the swing weight is too high.

The second question is again best answered by checking the swing weight and adjusting as necessary- it should be noted that the MCC plus 4 at 52 grams is not an unusual grip weight i.e. it is the additional 4 wraps which factored into the swing weight difference in your first example. The weight difference between the two shafts is approximately 1/2 swing weight point i.e. the higher weight shaft will swing weight higher (assuming grip weight and wraps are the same) when both are placed in the same head.

For future reference following are the effect on swing weight of various adjustments:

    (1) +/- 1/2 inch in club Length = +/- 3 swing weight points
    (2) +/- 5 grams in grip weight = -/+ 1 swing weight point
    (3) +/- 2 grams in head weight = +/- 1 swing weight point
    (4) +/- 9 grams in shaft weight - +/- 1 swing weight point- will be a variance depending upon the distribution
    of weight within the shafts

Also +1/- 1/2 inch in club length changes the playing lie +/- one degree

    Hope this information is useful.
