I happened upon a circa 1980 set of Titleist Tour irons 3-P with a 1-3-5 (actual persimmon) woods in LH. The eBay seller apparently got them from an estate sale. The person buying the clubs apparently didn't have a chance to ever play them. The shafts are all metal, and the flex is R-300. So, if you really wanted a LH set, just keep searching. They are fun to hit but even matching the same lofts to my AP3, they still run about a club short. I found a set of matching grips designed from that time era (the originals were pretty hard) but will likely be displayed more than played. The persimmons are a far cry from TS2's and would need far more practice to be playable.

I have a set similar to that. I will take pictures of it tonight, because I am not really sure the history of them!

    They were my wife's grandpa's!

  13. Deno , what would be really fun would be to find some old balata"s to hit. Give these guys a report on what us old guys felt on that perfect sweet spot strike!

I played persimmon woods and Titleist blades way past the millenium. I still hate the "pingy" sound of metals. I finally gave in and went for a complete Titleist upgrade (still blades) but there is no sweeter feel than "hitting it on the screws".

I still have my old sticks and play 'em a few times a season.

The longest drives I've ever hit were with real 3 woods. 325 with a laminated 3 wood having an aluminum shaft in 1973. 290 with a persimmon in 1988 or so. I teed off with a 1 iron back then also.

My dad left behind a set of Apex Plus 2-L in 2015.

    In 2010, I carried a persimmon 5 wood, 10 wood (28.5) and 34 hybrid. Unfortunately I broke the heads. Had a Titleist 980F 3 wood too.

I used steel shafts on my fairways (975F) between 2007-2010.

I played clear into 2012 with the 10 wood and 34 hybrid. Titleist since then.

While we are on the subject of Acushnet stuff.... feast your eyes. My dad had it since 1962 before he passed on. My "speshul" (sic) putter. Got that "pixie dust"

In those days Titleist clubs and balls were only sold in Pro Shops. Times have changed.
