  1. I currently have 718 ap2 irons 4-pw with 54* and 58* sm7 wedges.

I find the sm7 wedges great around the greens and was thinking of getting a 46* sm7 to replace my ap2 pw. Are the bounces different in these clubs?

I see that the only sm7 bounce option is 10degrees in 46* (pw) What is the bounce of a 718 ap2 pw??

    Will i benefit from switching?

    Thanks in advance!!!

I would first ask myself, what am I looking to achieve by swapping out the AP2 PW? These are primarily full shots as opposed to your other wedges. Do you want better feel and feedback that you think you are not getting from the cavity back? I don't think the slightly more bounce will be a problem but could be a noticeable difference in long chips if you were used to your AP2 PW for that shot. A little practice will take care of that adjustment if you do switch. Still boils down to personal choice. You could give it a try and hang on to your PW in case you decide to go back.

I dumped the AP2 pw and put in a jokey to keep the wedge look consistent.

g.AWedges can have any number of bounce angles. Different course conditions as well as your swing dictates the bounce needed to optimize the most important scoring club in your bag.

I would suggest that you get a wedge lesson from a P.G.A. professional to find your best fit.

I have the exact same setup in my bag. I went to a Titleist Thursdays to see if I would benefit from a 46* Vokey instead of my Ap2. I found out the spin rate jumped drastically with the Vokey, and I was losing distance. So, spin rate can be good or bad depending on what you’re looking to do with your PW. Very personal, but if you’re looking for a little more workability while sacrificing some distance go Vokey. If you are trying to tame a hook/slice I’d stay with the Ap2. I stuck with the Ap2 because it’s still workable without messing up my gapping. Bottom line: Try before you buy! Hit em straight. DD

Would expect the AP2 PW to be 6 - 7 degrees of bounce- can't see any reason the additional SM7 bounce add a significant advantage- your 54 degree would be more versatile around the green.
  7. My understanding is that there is a 4, 8, and 12 bounce and that it really depends on the type of grass you are playing. Are you playing on tight country club fairways, Bermuda, more of a public course where the grass is not as tight? It really depends on the condition. You should try all three to determine what is best for you.
  8. Thanks guys for all your help on this matter!! Really helped me alot !!!
  9. I've got 718 AP2's - the PW is stronger than the previous version (I think 718 is 46* as opposed to 48*) There is an A-wedge available in the 718 AP2 at 50*.
Rather than the A-wedge, I adapted my Vokey wedge set up to 50* 56* & 62*.
My logic was that this gave me more flexibility in the long run and was cheaper.
However, I wouldn't swap the PW for anything.
It's great on full shots, checks on demand on greens and is my go-to chip & run club.
Think you may be best served by a full wedge testing session after checking out your wedge technique in a coaching session.

My AP2 set has a PW that is probably 45*, but I find it weird that there's also a gap wedge at 48*... (I'm old enough to remember when the standard pitching wedge was 48*)

To stick with 14 clubs, I need to eliminate either the 48* wedge or my Vokey 50* wedge. The only critical question I have about my AP2 set is how Titleist chose to make that gap wedge 48*. I wouldn't give it very good odds of winning this little contest.

oops... I can't seem to edit anything I post. I accidentally hit the wrong button and the post I just made can't be finished with my comments about bounce, the original subject of the thread.

LSS - The often sandy ground here in Miami, Florida tends to make me want to carry whichever of the gap wedges has the best turf interaction. My money is on the Vokey 50*...
