Cleaning steps with Titleist 718- AP1

    Just got my first set of clubs from Titleist and after registering them with Titleist decided to check the forms here.... very surprised to see the warnings about submerging the clubs because it creating rust.

    My club fitting was close between a few different companies but chose the Titleist because their reputation as a customer service focused company. Although, I’m not sure I would have picked the AP1’s ,with cavity backs, if washing them could cause damage.

    I am asking, does submerging the clubs cause damage a verified issue or a rumor?

    It can be real. Any modern multi-material iron carries the same risk, not just Titleist. Other than a MB or wedge, submerging any club head carries a potential for rust inside the head. I'd rather use a damp cloth than the club washers on course or on the back of a cart.

    Submerging them alone doesn’t guarantee rust. Make sure you get them completely dry. I’d suggest using an air compressor to get any water in spots that can’t be reached with a towel.

    After every round I clean the grooves with a soft toothbrush under running water followed by a quick dip in water and dry with a clean soft cloth taking care to see that the cavity is clear of any water and/or dirt. Beyond this point rusting for me is not a concern. however, Michael's suggestion of using an air compressor should put one's mind at ease.
