Anyone have a thought on wedge shafts? Is there anything to playing the same shaft as irons in a wedge, or is wedge flex appropriate?

  2. I've been fitted for my whole bag. I have the same wedge shafts as my irons (KBS Tour 120S).
  3. Keeping the shafts consistent throughout your irons and wedges is, I believe, standard practice.

That said, wedge-specific shafts do make a noticeable difference. I have KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 shafts on my 48* and 52* Vokeys, and the launch angle and spin I get with them is insane (in a good way). If you're looking for spin on your approach shots with your wedges, I personally recommend the Hi-Rev 2.0s.

That's a great question and we all suggest to go and get fitted for your wedges. Most people don't think about getting fit for their wedges, like they do their irons and woods. But they are just as important, if not more so, since you use those more then most of your irons.

There are a lot of people that play the same iron shafts in their wedges and also the opposite, where their wedges are a different shaft. I would say that most pros that play the same shaft with their irons and wedges, usually play something with a lighter flex. Example: players that play Project X 7.0 in their irons, usually play Project X 6.5 (or even a 6.0) in their wedges. They like the same feel as their irons, so it's a continues feel throughout the bag, but what something with a little more flex, as they are playing different shots.

Go to a fitting, try out different lofts and grinds and shafts and see what you like. Let us know what you end up with.

IMHO, it depends on how you use your wedges. I use my 50* for 3/4 and full-swing shots 95% of the time, whereas I use my 54 and 58 for every kind of less-than-full-swing short shot you can think of, as well as for full shots. I have been playing the wedgeflex shaft (S200) in all my wedges ever since I started playing Vokeys back in '09. I'm sure there are many good reasons to play the same shaft as in your irons for most folks, but I am so comfortable with what I know, I don't think I want to change. Besides, the MB style of the Vokeys is quite different than the cavity-blade style of the AP2s.

Frankly speaking, I'm not so sure playing the same shaft for all your IRONS is necessarily the correct way to go. It depends on you, which is why fitting is so important. I play a Kuro Kage Tini 85 graphite shaft in my AP3 4 iron, but TT AMT Blacks in my AP3/AP2 combo set, which works well for me. The 4 iron is sort of a cross between an iron and a hybrid with the graphite shaft, in my head, anyway. I call it a 4 hyron!
