Are all Titleist clubs manufactured that same?

    Ok, so have just upgraded to a set of Titleist AP3's. Fun fact is I have two other buddies that play them, the big question is there is a huuuuuuuge difference between all three... So why? 1 set was purchased off the rack from golf town, 1 set was a custom build ordered direct from Titleist USA and the third a purchase of Kijiji here in Canada. The thing I can't reconcile is why literally all three are different... And not just a bit I'm talking many mm's difference, different fonts, different colouring (one has white painted grooves) and I sh#t you not, different head shapes (they are close but we have agreed they are different)

    So, why?

    Running hypothesis so far

    1. Different manufacturing facilities 2. Different/upgraded specs (the base model was changed over time...) 3. Counterfeit... But two were purchased retail from authorized dealers 4. Titleist is not telling us the full story... I.e. quality control for retail products is rubbish... The weekend warrior is getting duped.

    You may have to look close but if you break out the ruler I would love to know if you and your buddies with AP3's see the same as us.

    Having been to the assembly plant in Carlsbad, CA, the assembly is done on identical lines. The difference being some lines just keep making the same "stock" set and others come with assembly instructions for custom assembly. The crews move across lines so no on just assembles stock while others only assemble stock sets.

    I'll discount #3 from the tour and #4 as we saw the component lots inspected, and if needed, sorted by weight. As they assemble, the weights are rechecked and if needed, weight is added for the desired swing weights.

    For #1 I can only assume the Canadian sets are assembled in Carlsbad. It is possible they come from England or Japan.

    For #2, there are changes in the stock shafts especially at the end of one version, so some late AP3s may have the new stock shaft for the early T-200. Or vice-versa. Just guessing. Ferrules may change for similar reasons.

    I have both a chrome set and black set of AP3's with identical specs that include a non-stock shaft (available in both chrome and black). Other than color, they look and perform the same.

    Hey Don,

    Many thanks for the feedback, the thing for me is that of the three sets that i have seen all three club heads themselves are different, thats the thing i cant reconcile. For example, on the stock "off the shelf" set the sole of the 6 iron is at least 2mm thicker/wider than the custom set and the one i bought from Kijiji. The custom set has a noticeably thinner top edge than the other two and the big one for me is when you look at the back of the club (picture attached) the gap between the lip of the back of the club and the black insert is differnt on all three and the spread is over 3mm!

    just very confusing, especially considering the reputation titleist has for quality control. In this case i am left wondering just how different these heads are accross the board... i am going to head around a few pro shops next week to do some measurments on stock sets.

    I have ordered many sets of Titleist irons for customers and can't say that I have ever seen a difference in them. A couple of guys that play in our group use AP3s and if it weren't for the different grips you couldn't tell them apart.

    I am curious about the outcome of this post. Did you find out why they are different? did they come from a different plant? have you had to chance to hit or seen all three be hit. Are they similar?
