  1. I recently switched to 718 AP2 after years of playing various spring-face "game improvement" irons. AP2 have weaker lofts, which was no problem once I learned my yardages with each club. But they play some differently in other ways, too.

So what's the executive summary of 718 AP2? What "type" of iron is it supposed to be?

Back in the day, I played DCI Black and then DCI 990 for donkeys and we used to call then "players cavity backs". Is that the same category as AP2 is meant to be?

And is it just me or does an approach shot with, let's say, the 8-iron or 7-iron spin a good bit more with the AP2 than with most other irons nowadays?

I've always lacked height and spin on my iron shots, even playing Pro V1x balls. But I am having no problem at all stopping shots now. That's been a real bonus from making the switch.

The final difference I think I'm seeing is when playing bump and run shots around the green using an iron (7, 8 or 9) the ball comes off kind of lower and hotter than I'm used to. It took a few rounds to get those shots dialed in because there's a real difference between chipping with, say, the AP2 9-iron and a 46-degree Vokey PW.

AP2 is a player focused iron, whilst not a full player iron such as CB or MB. Speith (amongst others) uses them on tour as they are more forgiving but just as high performing as the CB/MB
