  1. After playing the Titlist 704 CB's for years, last September 2018, I finally bought the new Titleist AP1 irons (which I love). However, they seem to be set up with a draw bias, which I hate. I prefer a straight or fade shot. I'm very disappointed because i noticed the newest irons are now set up WITHOUT so much draw bias, sounds like everyone has had same issue with too much draw bias in AP1's. The problem is that the trade in value of these 1 year old clubs is $300. Maybe some can afford $1,200 for clubs every year but not me.

My question: Can I bend the draw bias out of these clubs so its more of a straight shot?

Yes, you can have them adjusted up to 2 degrees flat which should help. Be careful where you have them done to make sure if they crack, there is replacement coverage. Always tricky with cast clubs and the 2 degrees is the max anyone will bend them. Another trick is to add ribbed grips where the reminder rib will force you to open the clubface a bit at address (and impact). Higher shot with a bit of a fade.

Ben Hogan found that by weakening his grip he was able to eliminate his dreaded hook. By weakening the grip (adjusting one's grip from the leading hand "V" pointing between the chin and the trail shoulder to having the leading thumb on the center line of the shaft), the hook-and possibly the draw bias-may be reduced or eliminated. You may want to try this before having your irons adjusted.

The draw bias is due to the amount of offset of the face from the hosel, allowing the face to close a little more on impact. Moving from CBs to the AP1 will be an adjustment to accommodate. The offset declines from AP1 through MB - for obviously more skilled players. I agree with Dale that setting up every so slightly with the face open will be the easiest solution. Before bending, check with a good fitter center. Empirically bending flat may result in catching the toe in the turf for more uncontrolled fades and otherwise not correct the problem.
