Today @ 12:50pm#1
I just moved over to AP3 irons (4-PW + 48) with Project X LZ 6.0s in them. Love the irons, but now my gapping is all crazy. I was coming from png i25s (4-UW with CFS R shafts - too soft for me).
Here's what I have in the bag now:
Titleist 915D2 10.5*
Titleist 915F 16.5*
Titleist 915H 21*
AP3 4-PW + 48*
Cleveland CG10 54* and 58*
There are two obvious issues, The 21* hybrid and 4i are pretty close in distance and the 48* and 54* are too far apart. I am guessing that I am carrying the 48* about 125 and the 54 carries about 105. I also have a matching 50* that I could shove in there that should give me about 10 yards between clubs (could bend it a little weak too if need be). That means pulling something out on the top end. So the hybrid or the 4i?
Alternatively, I can bend the 54* to 53*, learn to hit 3/4 shots with my wedges, and then turn the 21* down to 18.5* or source a 19* head. I feel relatively confident with the 4i and the hybrid. Perhaps I should turn the hybrid down first and see if I still like it?
Right now, I'm leaning toward the extra wedge as I really like being able to just pull the right club for a full shot and go. Also worth mentioning that my home course is not long enough to need the 4i or hybrid anywhere unless something goes wrong. The par 5s are not reachable for me in two even with a good drive, the par 4s are not long enough to need a 4i/3h approach, and I can reach all the par 3s with the AP3 5i. There are two tight par 4s that I pull the hybrid or 3W for off the tee (depending on the day). Otherwise the long clubs generally stay in the bag.
Am I crazy for trying to carry 5 "wedges"? Thoughts?
