Hello Team Titleist,
Very intrigued by the tech in the new SM8s. But I'd like to run the following thoughts by the community to get confirmed or educated. Thanks.
From what I understand, the hosels have been lengthened and weighted with tungsten also installed in the toe to bring the CG forward. In one sense, I get the claimed 7% increase in MOI from the "perimeter" weighting, but does the resulting forward CG counteract any potential MOI gains if the wedge was hypothetically weighted in the heel and toe like the AP2 (thinking that weight low and "back" boosts MOI)?
The progressive CG height must be integrated somehow with manipulation of the new SM8 weighting strategy and I heard on the MrShortGame YouTube channel that he believes the new tech benefits the most lofted wedges 58+. Do you all agree and why?
And finally, the new SM8 tech is supposed to make the face square up earlier. Paired with the assumption that it benefits the higher lofted clubs, would a player that likes to play shots with an open face experience any challenges with the new tech? Is it best suited for the square face simpler technique players or full wedge shots?
Thank you for all your help.
