  1. I live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina am 66 years old and play over 100 rounds of golf a year. I've been playing the AP 1 irons with graphite Senior shafts for about 3 years. I'm a 13 handicap and my swing speed with my irons averages about 73 mph. I'm a sweeper and rarely take much of a divot. My average driver distance is 200 yards. What I need to improve is my GIR stat with my longer irons. My set consists of 5 - AW. My average distance with my 6 iron is 140 yards and the am pretty much 10 yards shorter as the clubs descend. 8 - AW I can reasonably hit the greens I'd say about 75%. However, once I am faced with my 5 - 7 irons that drops significantly. What I did notice in the specs on the T - 400 irons are that the lofts are a club stronger which in and of itself will produce more distance but my fear is that basically I'd be hitting longer irons and missing greens just the same.

I have two questions regarding the new T-400 irons. A. Should I stick with graphite or can I go to steel shafts? Do I gain any benefit from either. B. The T-400 irons are offset. Will that be a benefit?

Good morning, I would recommend that you go see a professional fitter.

Go to a PGA professional for a lesson or two. I had the same problem as you going from png K15's to AP1's

K15's are designed with more offset and head technology to help you close the face at impact.

AP1's not so much, but working with a swing monitor and help from my PGA teacher the problem got solved by adjusting my right had grip on the club making it slightly stronger. I had a good inside out path but my club face was not closed enough at impact. Also got a little more distance.

The hollow body and extra tungsten should help launch higher and with a little more spin. Both are friends to increase distance with slower swing speeds. To get a comparison, you would need to compare the 7 iron with your current 6 iron to compare at the same loft. Besides loft, you would need to compare the 2 shafts. The 50 g graphite will feel differently than the 95 g steel.
I'm in the same ranges as you. I added a T300 5 iron and it is more than 10 yards longer than my 718 6 iron. I am considering replacing the other irons with T300, but the T400 has put that on hold until I can trial that.
I'm still curious if I can hit the T400 5 iron that is 20 degrees. That would be replacing my 7W as I've had difficulty getting 10 yards gapping after the traditional 6 iron. I've always had a hybrid or 2 after the 6 iron.
