I am 63 years old and last year was fitted for a TS2 driver 9.5 degree with the Tensei AV blue 55 shaft in stiff flex and MCC+4 grips with 4 total wraps, and the standard head weight and length. I have the same shaft but regular flex in my 3 wood and hybrid. Generally I hit the driver well, but there are times that I am off a bit, sore from multiple rounds, or just tired, and I switch out the shaft with the Kuro Kage Black 50 regular flex for an easier swing. It is the same length and has the same grip setup. Ball flight seems a bit higher but otherwise about the same results. Just wondering if I should be changing the head weight for the lighter shaft, and if so what to expect.

You could change the weight. If you do, it should be to a lighter weight. This will get the swing weight back to where it was with the heavier shaft. You may pick up a few MPH of club head speed if you do this. This may become your everyday club setup.....

Barry, I am about your age, play a 9.5 TS2 Driver with a Tensei Blue 55 as well. In addition, I have an Aldila Rogue Black 60 R (which plays nearly as stiff as---or maybe even stiffer than---the Tensei Blue stiff), as well as a PX Evenflow Blue 65 5.5 flex, 1/2 inch shorter. Both of those are played as alternatives to the Tensei Blue stiff, when the need or desire hits me. I just pop one shaft off, the other on and never think about any swingweight change. I have never noticed a big change to my ballflight characteristics from one to the other. I typically keep it in the fairway with all three of them,....... unless it's "one of those days!"

I use the same grip on all three shafts, however, it's a couple grams lighter than your MCC+4s. I do add extra tape wraps to build up the diameter of the grip. I like midsize original MCCs on my irons and wedges, but feel they are too bulky on my hybrid, 3W and driver. The extra wraps satisfy me.

I'm not saying you shouldn't question whether you should be changing the weight in the TS head from shaft to shaft, I'm only saying, for me personally, I haven't noticed a difference when I change my shafts. I play or practice virtually everyday and carry a mid-single digit index. I feel like I'm in tune enough with my driver that I would notice any big difference. Maybe there would be a slight disparity between my shafts on a launch monitor, but I'm a seat-of-the-pants kinda player. I need to see it and feel it in real life, not on a screen. And in reality, not VIRTUAL reality, I have noticed no difference.

BTW, I also play the Tensei Blue stiff in my hybrid and 3W, same as you.

I'd say go get a Titleist fitting, maybe shorten the shaft 1/2 inch, it seemed to give me better control.

I wouldn't worry about the weight, 5 grams of shaft weight isn't that much difference. If your still getting tired during the round you may want to go to a titleist fitter and check out some lighter weight options

Thanks for the input. I have several aftermarket shafts from previous drivers that I can also use because the fitting for Titleist has not changed for awhile. I pretty much stick with the Tensei or the Kuro Kage with my TS2. I also have an Ozik Matrix White Tie 50 stiff, Fujikura Fuel 60 regular, and Fujikura Six XLR8 stiff, all 1/2" shorter. Sometimes I take them all to the range and play musical shafts. Each one has its own characteristics and after several swings the White Tie seems to give the best results of the shorter shafts, but overall I do better with the 2 shafts that were designed for the TS2 and almost always play the Tensei.

Trial and error is the way to a great fit. I would not worry over the specs or a minor difference in swingweight.
    Results are what matters.
