I am playing the AMT Red regular shafts in my irons and prefer the constant weighting in the XP 90 regular. I am looking for the highest launching lowest spinning shaft. The butt frequency in the XP 90 seems higher than the AMT Red which is going to make it feel a little stiffer. Can I soft step the XP 90 for a little softer feel and to get an even higher launch without creating too much spin?

  2. More spin equals higher trajectory. Launch is dictated by your attack angle and speed of your swing. I would get with a clubfitter on a trackman, there are certain "windows" of launch/height/spin/descent that are ideal. When I do fittings a simple ball position correction can change launch by 4-6 degrees. If you are getting too much spin on a lower flight, my guess is you pick the ball relatively thin which can lower your launch while adding spin. I have seen very good ballstrikers have anywhere from 16-22* launch with a 7 iron, some guys hit down at -6* some are shallower at -1, but if you are positive like +3 then ball position may be too far forward. Ideal spin window is double your loft (34* 7 iron = 6800 rpms) Descent angle window with a 7 iron is 45-50* (longer hitters will be closer to the 50 - shorter hitters closer to 45)
