  1. Hi, first post here (also a long one- apologies) and some back round.. Having only picked a club up and playing casually since 2015 with a starter set, i decided 2 years ago that i needed to upgrade as i wanted to take it more seriously. I had a fitting at american golf with the irons i liked the look of and ended up with some AP3's (5-PW) which i hit ridiculously well and a couple of vokeys (52* bent to 51* + 58*). Having never used anything except irons my whole 'career' and playing to around 20 handicap (managed a freak 79 somehow too), a year later i went for a 917D2. Before i could take it out on the course i had an accident and broke my leg so everything was on hold. I started swinging the clubs again April/May this year and a couple of rounds ago brought the driver out and i'm already posting lower scores. I went for a fitting last week at american golf for a 818h and i was suited better to the H1 which i agreed with however they only had the 21*. I asked whether he thought i should go for 15* 917f2 (didn't have 1 in store so couldn't be fitted for that) and 19* H1 or 16.5* and 21*, he said the latter and i'm thinking he said that because he wanted me to buy the 21 there and then which i didn't.. Wouldn't i be better with former with the ability to adjust them up? Also with adjusting them up, it will close the club face and help with the bad shot tendency which is a slice? I feel i'm at a stage where titleist fittings are a fair few stages ahead of where i am and i just need to learn how to hit these clubs I've never hit or played with before. Any help and advice on this or just in general would be greatly appreciated, thanks..

you can get the 15 3w + 19 hybrid and just move the loft up to 16.5 and 21

    Barry,
Sounds like the fitter at American Golf may be pushing you towards what he has in the store, rather then what is best for your game. Don't be shy about going for a fitting with a qualified Titleist fitter, they are there to help golfers not judge. Go to the FITTING option on the top menu and search for Titleist fitters near you. When you search for a fitter using your location once the list comes up at the top of the list is a Filter option, select it and select the filters for your search (I suggest Launch Monitor and Outside Ball Flight). Typically with Titleist fitters there will be a charge for the fitting, but if you purchase through the fitter they may waive the cost or apply it towards your purchase. Another fitting option is Titleist Thursdays. Select the Titleist Thursday option under FITTING and see if there is an event near you. If there is, sign up for a slot (it's free).
We've all been where you are with our games, getting fit is the best way to ensure the clubs you purchase will help to improve your game.
Best of luck to you as you go through this process.

Sounds like you are looking at used clubs, or at least left over stock. The 818 hybrid was replaced with the TS in October, 2018. What you want is 10-15 yards longer than your 5 iron. A 19 may be a larger gap that you may need. An outdoor fitting/trial is preferred, but you would need some reasonably accurate electronic device to check the gap in the store.
After the 5 iron to your next club is properly gapped, then you can start to look at the distance from that club to driver to see if you need 1 or 2 more clubs to fit distances you can comfortably hit. It will be important to trial this next club on real turf. Not every amateur can successfully launch a 3W off of turf even if they can on a mat so you really need to look at 3-4-5W to fill the gap. Since RH drivers are available in 8.5/9.5/10.5/12 degrees and a plethora of shafts, there is no way anyone can post on this site what you need next. But a qualified professional can help you with both swing corrections and recommending the most appropriate equipment for your game.
  5. I carry the 16.5 three wood becausr I need the extra loft to maximize performance. I recommend it to anyone without a lot of speed.

I have 16.5 degree 3 wood and 21 degree hybrid, both TS2. I find the shorter shafts easier to control. You can always play with lofts to control your gaps.
