  1. I currently have a TS3 3 wood, TS2 3 hybrid and then a U500 4 iron. I love the U500, dont mind the hybrid and I'm really in and out with the fairway wood.

I'm debating dropping the fairway wood and replacing it with a U500 2 iron. I would only really use the 3 wood off the tee when I would want to find a fairway but I dont feel I can confidently. Has anyone done similar and dropped the fairway for a 2 iron? Any thoughts?

And has anyone hit the U500 4 iron and struggled with the U500 2 iron? I know the proper answer is go and try it, but it's not a club I can try out anywhere before ordering it.

  2. I was looking to get something to replace my 3 iron mainly for off the tee because there was about a 25-30 yard gap between it and my 3 wood (cally XR 16). I'm not a fan of hybrids and so I ended up with the U500 2 iron during a Thursday fitting because it was filling the gap nicely about 15 yards shorter than the 3 wood.

I got it a few weeks ago and I feel like I've been hitting it further than I was during the fitting. Maybe not quite the distance of my 3 wood but I certainly have much more control with the 2 iron. Ball flight seems to be low with it but I'm used to a higher flight so that could just be bias. I absolutely love it off the tee but haven't hit into any greens with it yet so not sure how it would do there.

Based on my experience you might not have quite as much distance as the 3 wood but be potentially more accurate. I'm on the fence of removing my 3 wood now because of it but I don't know what I would replace it with. lol If you like the distance gap between your 3 wood and hybrid it might not be the answer because the 2 iron may encroach on the hybrid. But if you have a decent gap and don't mind giving up some distance for accuracy it may be a good fit!

I am a single digit handicap and consider myself a decent ball striker and I would say the 2 iron was slightly more difficult to hit than the 3 iron I tried at the fitting but barely noticeable. If you don't struggle with getting the 4 iron airborne I would guess you will be alright with the 2 iron.
  3. Thanks Eric, that is is exactly what I was looking for.

I bought the 2 iron and played with it at the weekend and like you say it is a little bit shorter than a 3 wood but I feel I am a lot more accurate with the 2 iron. I hit a couple of bad ones with it and it still got out there and found fairway. Id take that any day of the week over the results with my 3 wood, although not sure I'd fancy hitting one into a green from far out - thats where the 3 wood had its place, but I never found myself playing that shot anyway. I will just hit my 19 degree TS2 hybrid in that situation probably.

Im a single digit handicap too and strike the 4 iron well but initial thoughts are it is harder to hit, naturally, but perhaps I will get used to it the more I play it. I used to play an older steel shaft miz 2 iron about 4 years ago and it replaced my driver at times. In fact I shot my best ever round playing that club off every tee in Portugal! The Titleist seems a much nicer club though - better flight and more distance.
