  1. Has anyone ever tried cavity back wedges? I'm a novice golfer so i don't know if i would benefit from cavity backs rather than the traditional bladed wedges...

Welcome to the game and wishing many years of enjoyment. Back to your question... typically a new or high handicap player might be good to use a set where the "gap" wedge can be purchased that might match a game improvement set like the T300 or T400. You will using it mostly for full shots at closer distances. For short chips, pitches, and sand play, most people want the feel you get from a traditional wedge. There are many lofts and bounce options on the Vokey's so maybe think about getting fit to set up what will work best for you. Good luck and enjoy.

It is a matter of giving away feel for forgiveness. Personally, I would never give away feel with my wedges. I have Vokey SM7.08M and I love their spin and versatility for my level, but if you want more forgiveness, go for a K grind rather than M grind. The first thing that I would do is to get club fitting for wedges.

You may want to work with a good instructor/fitter to help you decide when to switch from your iron set to wedges as Dale noted As for cavity-back wedges, the design is to move weight around. The Vokey line has been focused redistributing weight for more consistent shot making. So for pure wedge shots, that design difference won't be much of an impact. The problem with most of us duffers is we can dial in the driver but never get enough practice to fully utilize the wedges/short irons for short side shots or control coming out of a bunker.

Ditto to all the above..... I have a 716 AP1 52 degree I use on full shots love the forgiveness. I use a SM6 56.10 for all my greenside & sandtrap shots because of feel & that crisp sound when I hit the ball right.

    Good question though
