My irons are about 8 years old so it has been time to upgrade for a while now. I have hit the T-200s in my local golf shop but wanted to do a fitting outside on the grass. I booked a time at a Titleist Thursday event. I currently play TM R-11's with Dynamic Gold XP shafts (the 2012/2013 version at 120 grams), with 1/2 inch over standard length and 3 degrees upright. I have felt like they might be a little too upright as my clubhead path coming down is better (has been too steep in the past).

I hit my 32 degree 7-iron 175-180 yards with a medium flight. I am 6'3" and driver swing speed is 110-112 mph.

I tried several shafts, including the Project X 6.0, Project X LZ 6.0, the AMT Black S300, and a KBS shaft (don't recall which model). All in 1/2 inch over standard and 2 degrees upright. I wasn't hitting ideal numbers on the launch monitor and the ball flight was not ideal- a little lower than we wanted. We tried the AMT Black in one inch over standard and 1 degree upright. That turned out to be the right combination.

I was surprised about the change in lenght of the shaft from my prior sets but I am not going to question it. The Titleist rep knew what he was doing. And the typical measurement to determine club lenght says I should be one inch over standard. I just kept playing 1/2 over as that is what I always played. It was pretty clear when we found the right fit.

We put the order in before I left the range, 4-GW. Can't wait to get them.

I will then get a u500 to fill the gap between 3 -wood and 4-iron, and will need to pick up a 52 degree Vokey to fill the gap btween the 48 degree T-200 GW and my 56 degree Vokey.

It's possible the TM's have a longer shaft than the Titleist standard. That's one way to increase distance, in addition to decreasing loft. In the AP1 712 6 iron, the Titleist is 1/4 longer than the stock png 6 iron. Likely you were fit in a 6 iron 8 years ago, and the fitting iron is now a 7 iron. By comparison, that would be a longer shaft as well. Sounds like the fitter did due diligence.

    Good luck with your upgrade.

Thanks, Don. Yes, there are so many variables, especially between brands, so hard to know the reason for the change to 1 inch over standard.

Really glad I did the Titleist Thursday fitting. Cool experience and I have a great set of clubs on the way.

This is good to hear, I am 6’3” and was also fitted for +1” over standard. Clubs felt great at the fitting by the way.

Put the new T200s in the bag this week. First round with them today. Swing was a little off but I hit some really good iron shots. They are more forgiving than i thought they would be. Ball flight is higher but still penetrating.

I got steep on a couple of shots and the turf interaction was great.

As I thought, I am about a club longer with these compared to my prior irons. 48 degree GW that matches the set is about 10 yards longer than my previous Gw, so need to gwt a 52 degree Vokey to split the difference between the 48 and my 56 vokey.

Usually takes me a couple of rounds to get used to new irons. I like what I see so far.

Looking great! I am looking into getting fitted for one of the T-series irons.

Second round with the new irons. had some tree issues on a couple of holes and was able to move the ball both ways pretty well. Also flighted a couple of shots down into the wind. And definitely forgiving, especially with shots towards the toe.

  8. Back at Course after 6 years break and realized the my old TM RAC COMBO was punishing me too much!
When the T200 was revealed in the limited All Black, the decision was easy.
I’m 6’3” and is fitted +½” and 3° Up. The difference is unbelievable. Hitting them solid and long.
Unfortunately I totally missed the PW only is 43°! So my old CG10 52, 56, 60 leaves a big gap and will most likely be accompanied with a Vokey 48° and eventually a 54 and 60

I apologize for the TM’s in the bag
