Adding a hybrid to a T-300 iron set

  1. I recently upgraded to the T-300 irons and absolutely love them! In the past I have always carried a 2 or 3 hybrid in my bag to cover the gap between my 4 iron and 3 wood. I would still like to carry a hybrid and have been looking at buying a TS3 hybrid. However with the T-300 irons lofted so strongly I am concerned that there won’t be much of a distance gap between the 20 degree 4 iron and a 19 degree TS3 2 hybrid. Does anyone playing the T-300’s carry a hybrid in addition to the 4 iron and do you notice enough of a distance deference to justify having both clubs in the bag?

I use two hybrids and then 6 iron on down. I would say just hit your 4 iron a while and see if you end up with a gap that needs attention. Seems like a bit of a stretch between s 3 wood and 4 iron, regardless of the degree of loft. You have to factor in club length and shaft material which will also impact overall distance. My guess is you will find an occasional need for the 19 degree hybrid. If you don't, there is no rule against carrying less than 14 clubs. I sometimes play with just 12.
  3. I went with the 5 wood to fill the gap between 3 wood and 5 iron. The 4 iron and hybrid seems to provide similar distance. I felt the 5 wood would best fill the gap I have.

I have the T300s, 5 iron thru W53. I carry two hybrids, 818h 218 and 816h1 18*. Has worked well for me the short period I play with them (September - December).

Do you have a distance gap from the 4 iron to the 3W? Another option could be to increase the loft of the 3W. If you can get the height and stopping power of a 19 degree hybrid, then you may not need one.
I stopped at a 23 degree T400 and had a 818 23 hybrid set back to 24 so they are the same distance but the hybrid carries further and lands softer. Will re-evaluate once the TSi hybrids are released. But I couldn’t make the choice until I got the T400 irons in hand to check my gapping.
  6. Not enough distance difference

i do 5 iron thru wedges and have a hybrid, 3 wood and a driver.
  8. Check the degrees of your 4 iron on the Titleist website. Then just get a hybrid that works for you. Best to try a few different lofts as some lofts suit players differently.
