Well Ladies and Gents I finally pulled my old 690mb’s out of the bag. I neglected my game over the years, life happens, and just don’t swing like I used too. Back in my hay day I carried around a +1-2 hcp and had really good control over my trajectory and distance with the old MB’s.
Since I’ve gotten a little bit older and a little heavier, my consistency of finding the sweet spot on the club face time and again went a little south. I decided to go get for for a new set of irons. I had my heart set on the new 620 CB’s and figured I’d fall right in love with them. However after spending almost three hours hitting balls with my expert club fitter, we landed on a set of T200’s with S400 shafts.
My mind was blown because these clubs weren’t even on my radar. I’d done the golf snob thing and passed them off as a high handicapper “game improvement” iron. But my club fitter did the right thing by not letting me look at the back of the club or tell me what shaft was in them. He only let me hit 5 shots a piece and then would switch me out to another club.
So then we went through all the data on the launch monitor and to my surprise the most consistent numbers came from the T200’s. I did pick up about a club length in distance due to the higher loft, but the ball flight is just amazing. Ball launches nice, flattens out beautifully, and lands nice and steep.
The one aspect I’d though I’d miss is the ability to work the ball low or high, but fellas these are Titleist clubs. All of the workability I need is no problem to dial up instinctively.
I asked my fitter “I thought these were game improvement irons?” He then asked me dead pan right back “ you don’t want to improve your game?”
I guess my whole point in this whole rant is don’t go into a fitting with pre conceived notions about what kind of player you are, or what clubs are for certain handicaps. Trust your fitter to put the right club in your hands that will maximize your swing into a great ball flight and consistency.
I’m super excited to get the out on the course and IMPROVE my game.
Thank you.
