Hi, I was just curious, does anyone own a lot more than 14 clubs, maybe various woods, hybrids, UT irons and 5 or 6 wedges and change the set up on a regular basis depending on the weather and course they are playing that day or do most of us have a set of 14 that we use every time regardless?

I do have more than the 14 clubs but personally dont change my bag make up.

I have 3W that I don’t use as the 2H in the bag is more consistent for me. I hit a fairly long ball and generally the courses I play I don’t require the 3W to reach anything in regulation.

My course gets VERY soft n sloppy in the winter but I don’t change my wedge bounce to suit this, I use the rough conditions to help sharpen the short game for the summer season.

If anything I’d more likely change my ball pending weather than my clubs. If its super windy day I may switch to a Pro V1 vs Pro V1X but that would be it.

I carry 17 or 18 clubs in my trunk (including the 14 in my bag) along with a couple extra driver shafts. I have a first-string 14 on the roster, but will swap out a couple here or there depending on many variables, not the least of which is the condition of the course on a particular day. In that case, I might switch to a different bounce Vokey lob wedge, and or a 2 hybrid in place of my 3W (for psychological reasons) and/or change shafts in my driver to better accommodate soft, firm or colder conditions. And sometimes, if for whatever reason, I haven't been hitting a specific first-string club well for a few rounds, I'll have it sit the bench (my trunk) while I play an alternate. That usually scares the first-stringer enough into getting its act back together quickly!

I had a SM6 60 degree wedge that would come and go based on soil/bunker conditions. I have had much better success in multiple conditions with a 58M SM8 that now goes every round. I have a 5W that only comes when I have longer par 3's. It is less reliable than a 7W, so I'll give up a few yards for a more consistent distance. My plan is to get fit in March to sort out a T400 6 iron and a 23H and expecting to add a 19/21 Hybrid to replace the 7W and a TSi-1 4/5W fairway to compliment the driver. When I'm carrying a bag, like at Bandon, the 6I and the 5W stay at home and I only carry 12 clubs.
  7. I’m in PHX so 6 months we are playing on Rye and the other 6 months on Bermuda. I play 3 different Vokey 58s (12/10/7) depending on time of year. Right after overseeding (now) the grass is wet and long therefore I play my max bounce wedge. Around Feb I’ll change to mid bounce, and then change to low bounce for Sept/Oct when the grass is very dry and short.

Depending on time of year and which of my 3 men’s clubs I’m playing that particular day, I’m either carrying 3W & 3H or a 2H & 4H. I club for the par 5s on each course so this setup changes weekly. The clubs are all the same model & shaft so it’s not an issue to change them this frequently.

I usually only play 12 clubs, especially those days I carry. Often alternate wedges with different bounces and lofts and 5-6 irons with hybrids depending on which course I might be playing.

Always flipping clubs: 1,3,5 woods, 19 818 hybrid, 3 816 tmb where the hybrid and TMB go in and out of bag depending on how dry underfoot/rough/wind. 5 wood hardly gets a look in. 4-pw MB’s. Never quite sure with vokey 46/pw as find pw better gapping but 46 more versatile. After that 52f, 56m, 60l forconstant gapping. Got a 58m if drop 56/60 to add 5w to top of bag though mostly not. Just don’t tell the missus!!

Love that at the end! That’s where I’m thinking of going with a 58 and a extra club at the top or the 56/60 in the wedges as two alternate choices. How do you decide between you PW or Vokey, do they change much much?

What’s the reasoning behind rotating them, are they different set ups in the wedges and the top end?

No real reason Mathew. Just enjoying the game My wedges are all Vokey 52s. All iron sets are 2-pw, stiff shaft standard length and lie. My drivers are 917 D2s. Fairway 3 wood 917 Fs. I'm not a big believer that all clubs must be fitted ( for recreational golfers ) Half inch longer or one degree of loft or lie doesn't make much difference unless you can shoot par or better 2 out of 3 rounds. I learned long ago to flight the ball high or low and hit 3/4, 1/2 and full shots and move the ball sideways. If you can't do that, the best fitters in the world can't help.

Clubs are like kids, you love them all just differently. In my bag right now I carry.
    Driver, 3wd, 5wd, 19°hybrid, 5iron to PW. 3 Vokeys 50° bent to 49. 52° bent to 53° and 56° and my Two ball fang..
But at any given moment I'll sub in my Scotty Fastback, 712U 3iron, 910h 19° and or 23° & a couple of different Vokeys depending on course or weather conditions

I have a set of 695MB irons from 5-P. I don't use the 5 iron because it is a lot less work to hit the 27H. Since I use an SM8 46-10F (bent to 44) and 50-08F, I leave the 9 and P in my spares. My basic bag is 12 clubs as shown in the thumb nail. I also have an SM5 62-08T in reserve but don't have a need to use it since I just got the Wedgworks 64W. I have the choice of carrying 23-27 or 25 for hybrids. Some courses I don't have a need for the 17F (fairways are closely cropped and the par 3s are under 200 yards). My 7 wood is a go to club for laying up on short par 4s or "threading the needle" on narrow holes. I would probably carry the 17F at Torrey.

I have extras too. I have the standard "normal" set up, 2-Lob wedge, but can put in or out the TS2 3wd, 5wd, 2 hybrid, with the long irons, depending on conditions like the fairways being soft, or greens etc., and 3 Scotty's that depend on the speed and length of the greens. The extras make guest appearances out of the extra carry bag in the trunk.
