I want to try to debunk a myth here if I can, I have heard that you shouldn't play with your woods during the winter months. Is there any truth to that? Most of the time if we play here in Ohio its 45 degrees and above. Just curious if I could be damaging my clubs. Thanks TT

Good question. I have heard different opinions, and different ways to manage with the colder weather, and wonder if it really helps. I personally use a good quality softer ball anytime the temps drop below 55 degrees, and keep an extra in my pocket and alternate between them each hole to keep it warmer. Also I worry about the lighter graphite shaft on my driver so I will sometimes rub it with a towel to warm it up a bit before hitting. My golf partners think I'm a loon, but I've seen one of my buddies snap a driver shaft when he mishit and hit the ground before the ball on a day it was sunny but just under 50 outside.

As long as I can put a tee in the ground, I'll use driver. So far, between any club and my arms, the clubs are winning on mishits. Maybe I should stop playing me in cold weather.

We play throughout the winter in temps as low as freezing and have never had a problem with my driver or fairway woods. I happen to live just south of you Mike and we play at Zoar throughout the winter--some in covered carts with heaters.
