I’d posted a long time back about whether I could use a Titleist Thursday to find out about the setup of my kit, which I got as a gift and wasn’t custom fitted for. Experience to date is that they only cater for those looking to buy the new equipment.

    Current kit...

    Driver is a 915D2, 9.5deg with Diamana D+ 70 white, stiff

    3wood is a 915F, 15deg with Diamana S+ 70 blue, stiff

    Hybrid is a 915H, 18deg with Diamana D+ 90 white, stiff

Driver is a challenge. Previous drivers (eg TM R7 Superquad and Titleist 910) have been 9.5deg and stiff also. The R7 was the stock Re-ax shaft. The 910 was a YS-6. I got a much better launch off both.

I don’t know my swing speed, launch angle or anything specific to advise on what I need. I think (!) I need a shaft that provides higher launch and spin. How can I confirm what is best, if Titleist Thursdays are current models only? Or, do I just take a punt with an Aldila NVS or Prolaunch blue? Also wondering whether Reg flex would help. I can play with the Surefit at the range, to tweak what I have, but I believe a change of shaft may bring a lot more to my game.

What do I need to be asking the local place for, given I’m not going to be buying a new driver from them?

Do I just pay for a fitting, take the data from that and shop elsewhere?

    Appreciate any help or info

...should probably have posted this in the club fitting section. Ooops.

Asked the local golf centre when at the driving range today if I could try a reg flex shaft to compare, and also a stiff shaft with higher launch and spin. Not unless I pay for a fitting apparently.

If you work with a local club that does Titleist fittings, they can work with you on trying a current shaft in the 915. You are asking a professional with equipment worth $10-25,000 US to fit you for a shaft. Expect to pay for their time. That said, if you buy the shaft from Titleist through them, they may either discount the shaft or the fitting. I'd expect the one club fitting to be in the $50-75 US range. Unless there is a reliable outlet that offers a discounted shaft, using the fitter to order that shaft might be your best option.

The one downside is Titleist uses "real deal" shafts, so purchased alone, they may run to $150-300 US just for the shaft. If you still have the 910 driver, that shaft will fit, as well. At least with a fitting you'll get a baseline of your swing mechanics to use as a starting point in the future.

I've bought used clubs in the past to swap shafts and resold them, but unless you know what shaft to get, it won't pay to do this 2-4 times looking for a better shaft.

    Hi.
    I played 915 D3 9.5 with Diamana D+ white 70 stiff few years ago.
This is a very stable shaft with tip stiff. It is a low launch, low spinning shaft.
For me, it was a good choice. I have a very quick tempo.
This shaft if for aggressive swinger or golfer having a quick transition.

If you want to have an idea of shafts to try, you could go to the: 1) Titleist Shaft performance guide and 2) the Titleist custom option book

In the Titleist option book, you will see some graphics of launch and spin of shafts.
Find the launch and spin you want and note the shafts that have these characteristics . This will give you a starting point to identify shafts that could interest you.

The best way still to see a professional fitter with a golf simulator.

I learned from my past errors.
