  1. Hello TT Friends,

Currently swinging 718 Ap1 irons going on their 5th season. Do y'all typically have a set timeline for when you get new irons? I've not noticed any degraded performance from the clubs. My game has gotten better so I've been considering trying the T200s. Just not sure if the difference would be noticeable enough to make it worth it.

    Thoughts?...

Best would be try getting fitted and see if there is any improvement in the numbers before switching to new compared to what you have?

I used to go every other change, but i'm still gaming my 716 AP1's. Think I'm gonna do T-300's as I doubt there will be an iron change this year.

Well Joe, it's kind of like cars. Some people like to drive the same one for years and other people can't wait for the new models to be available. Take a "test drive" in the form of a Titleist Thursday fitting and see if the new models entice you into making a switch. If not, no problem. Your 718 AP1's are great sticks. Enjoy.

I would get fitted to see if you see any major improvement whether it be carry distance, spine and ball flight.

I got fit for my irons (players irons) and as an equipment junky I always tell my self that my irons (1 year old) are still good. Even though I fell like my ball striking has gotten better. one thing I do notice is that when I play its very rare that I even use my irons except for par 3s. Fortunately most of my approach shots in are PW -- Wedge.
  6. Thank you all. That's some great feedback. Sounds like fitting is the way to go. For what it's worth I was fitted for these irons at a big box store. After the somewhat lengthy process I was almost disappointed to hear I was "off the rack". My swing has changed a fair amount since then after some lessons so I will heed your advice and try a fitting in the springtime when Titleist comes through Delaware.

    Thank you much!

Good choice. I've been to 3 outdoor Titleist fittings, 2 TM fittings (fun but stuck with Titleist), and probably a dozen "big box store" fittings. The Titleist fitters earned their spot as a Titleist fitter and use calibrated equipment at an outdoor range, and I'm sure the TM guys too. The "big box store" fitter probably was stocking shelves the day before and their equipment probably hasn't been adjusted since the Y2K scare. Also when you play golf there is no screen 10 feet in front of you trying to tell you where you "might" have hit the ball. You actually get to see where it goes.
Sorry Team Titleist, but yes I confess I went to the TM fittings. Please don't dox me though, as I was just reassuring myself that I made the right decision buying Titleist, and I was wearing a Dustin Johnson mask.

I was fitted for my 714 AP1’s at a big box store and was deemed standard. I love these irons but my game has improved somewhat and m thinking of getting fit in the spring thru my local Titleist fitter. Also looking at the T200.

I'm still gaming a set of 716 MB's that i purchasaed in April 2016 and I don't feel they have degraded at all. I was due to get fitted for a new set but due to COVID lockdown in Scotland the appointment was cancelled so i have no idea if i will have a new set in the bag this year.

I may now wait until the new cycle of Titleist irons come out..........i think this should be in autumn this year

I too will jump on the "get fit' band wagon, but with a twist. If your club has demo clubs , see if they'll let you take a 6 or 7 iron out for an actual round, and compare it in actual playing conditions to your current AP1 irons.

It's a great way to judge feel, distance and overall flight characteristics.

    Best of luck.

The correct answer is "it is always time for new clubs"!

    But seriously...
    a. identify current deficiencies
    b. test new clubs/shafts to see what kind of improvement may result. Or do a fitting.
    c. weigh the cost/benefit.
    d. tell your wife you are thinking about upgrading your clubs.
    e. keep enjoying your old set.

New and shinny is always nice. I tend to keep my irons a long time, I get comfortable with them, and like knowing what to expect out of them. I change the driver and fairway wood with each model that comes out, but irons stay.

I also find it takes me two or three fittings to get it right, that way I wont just be fit on a day my swing is on or off, give it a couple of times to make sure they fit you. One time is never enough for me.

I ran through about 6 sets of irons in 2019 before I finally settled on the CNCPTS. I love them and can see myself keeping them for a couple more seasons. I wish you luck on your search!
