Vokey Raw Wedges

  1. I've long considered switching to RAW wedges for the extra friction and spin benefits but I generally don't like the look of rusty clubs in my bag. I've seen other brands introduce wedges with just a raw face insert and the club head itself is a chrome or black finish.

If Titleist and/or Vokey Design ever offers a similar design, I would jump all over it. At the risk of sounding vain, I just don't want my bag to look rusty. The other manufacturer (I won't name names) I feel offers a solution to this and I sincerely wish Vokey would take notice.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Vokey may not be as convinced that raw faces offer an advantage over a plated face. They've done a lot of work on grinding the groves so from metal to metal, the groves are equal on delivery. Not to say there isn't disagreement among golfers that rusting grips better.

The pros tend to use raw wedges. between using multiple sets a season and tinkering with the grinds in the tour trailer, raw is not an issue for them.

Others offer forged wedges. Vokey doesn't in the US (Japan is different). That doesn't seem to be an issue with so many tour players using Vokey wedges even when their primary sponsor offers a forged option. So casting a wedge then slapping a raw face on for the primary complaint that the back rust is unsightly likely won't be happening.
  3. Thanks Don, I appreciate the insights and I understand what you're saying.
