  1. Love the irons, but my age is 70 and my swing speed has slowed significantly. I ordered png Alta Distanza 40gram shafts, they are a .355 tip and will fit in the AP1's. Going with 40" compared to the 38.5" recommended fitting by Titleist. Will this change the lie angle being an 1.5" longer. If so how much can the lie be adjusted on the AP1 716's I bought the png G driver with the png Alta Distanza and could not believe the distance I'm getting off the tee box. Accuracy has also increased with the Distanza. If Titleist had a 40 gram shaft I probably would have ordered them but they don't so png it is.

The 4 iron is std at 38.5 inches, the 7 iron is std at 37.5 inches. I assume your irons will all be +1.5 inches over std. Unless you are also standing more upright due to a physical limitation, you probably won’t do well with a longer iron. The length should be set by how you stand and wrist to floor distance. Standing further back will be a flatter swing and doubtful the lie could be adjusted that much (lie adjustments should be limited to +/- 2 degrees to keep surface from cracking). A flatter swing may result in not getting enough launch angle for max distance, as well as affect dispersion.

My only expertise is being 70 as well. I have gone with the 45-50 Fubuki MV shaft and it was a huge improvement over NP 950 metal. Weight is one consideration - the feel was preferable to the Tensai Red in the same weight range.

Others with more experience in this area may have better advice but you may want to experiment with a club maker or fitter to optimize the length and lie with you for the first club.

Yes the lie can be changed, 2 degrees up or down from they’re at now. What club did the fitter suggest a 40” shaft for? If you are adding length to them there will definitely be an adjustment period, longer the shaft the harder the center is to find. Length doesn’t always add distance as much as the correct flex. Just my experience with building clubs and fitting.
