Changing AP3s - so much choice!

  1. I'm very excited to be upgrading from my AP3s. I've loved them, but my eldest son is also ready for new clubs so he is going to get mine so I get to choose new ones (I've explained to my wife how this is obviously all done in my son's best interests...!).

So where to even begin? My teaching pro who is also a Titleist fitter is going to help me with this. I'm currently gaming:

    AP3: 5-GW in regular AMT white shafts Vokey SM7 54 degree U500 3-iron 818 H1 TS3 3 wood and driver

I love the AP3s but sometimes find them a little "hot". I'm playing off 8 and my 7-iron carry is 170 yards so I feel I don't need "distance" irons. The hybrid is the one club I really feel I don't use much (have always preferred irons to woods), whereas my U500 3-iron is used a lot (mainly off the tee).

Would be really interested to hear any views - I appreciate this is all an individual thing and subject to testing and fitting. The T100 look great - maybe go 4-PW and 3 iron in T200 utility build?

While not an even exchange, the T200 is the same target market as the AP3. It shares lofts with the T100s. The 4 iron in the T100 is a possibility moving from the AP3. The T200 now has a forged face on the cast body.

You definitely want to try all 3 as part of a fitting Your individual preference for feel and flight will be individual to you. Enjoy.

As a 8 handicap you're gonna be better off with T200

Peter, you are certainly going about it the right way with getting fit. Technology has changed enough from your AP3's that you will like your options. The T series line is great. I play T100s in 6-P, have a T100s and a T200 5 iron, then a U505 4 iron into a 3 and 5 metal (TSi). I like the T200 5 iron a little better as I am able to be more versatile with it. I also hit it higher.

Anything you will get will see an increase in distance from the AP3's. Might not be much but a few yards is always helpful.

As you said, it's all personal choice. Use the fitting session to see what the ball does with each club and how consistent the shot pattern is. Remember big fluctuations in distance is the club, big misses right and left is the golfer. You don't want your clubs to have big carry window where one shot the 7 iron goes 180 and the next 165....

Enjoy the process and have fun.
  5. Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I'll be sure to share my thoughts when I've had my fitting.
  6. Hi guys

I've now had my fitting and thought I'd share how things came out. Not really how I expected, but that's why you get fit, right!

    I've ended up with T100s 5-PW
T200 4-iron (not the utility build)
    Keeping my U500 3-iron
    Vokeys 48, 52, and 58

The T100s are just something else. So much nicer to hit than my AP3s. I've also gone with stiff AMT whites rather than regular.

I'll be keeping my 818 H1 hybrid - probably for winter golf when ball carry is not as far in the UK and I need the higher launch in colder conditions.
