Just wanted to get your take on the topic. Which one is more crucial? I was gaming TSI2, D4, 335g and just had the TSR2+ built into the same shaft at the same SW but it came in at 344g. Gained swing speed, ball speed was roughly the same but smash went down a bit. Oddly enough, i was actually hitting just as long if not longer by a bit. The club obviously felt a bit heavier. My thought process has been to reduce overall static weight but it may increase swing weight. Any thoughts?

I think static weight a lot more important than swing weight. Few players can tell the difference between two swing weight points - i.e., D2 to D4. I remember when, I think, Deane Beman went to the senior tour and he was fitted for the heaviest clubs he could swing at the same speed.

I think I agree as well. Static weight you can feel as opposed to swing weight unless its D7-8. I def felt the difference between 335g and 344g but the difference in swing weight from D5 TO D4 felt heavier as I had to counterbalance a bit using lead tape under the grip. Thank you for the feedback!

I’m not a pro club builder, just tinker with my own stuff… but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.
Probably depends on where/how you reduce the static weight. If you take it off the handle (like a lighter grip), you’ll likely increase the swing weight. If you reduce the weight insert in the club head, you’ll likely decrease the swing weight.
Maybe think shaft weight as too spread the static decrease and maybe not impact SW as much.
Based on my own experiences, I swing a heavier SW club faster because I can feel it load at the top providing better rhythm and timing to engage my lower body on the downswing. When a club SW is too light I’m guessing on the takeaway to the top and have too much of an ‘arms’ swing setting up the dreaded over-the-top move. So not surprised swing speed and ball speed improved - guessing dispersion may have tightened as well.
Smash is the calculated ratio between club head and ball speed and greatly effected by the strike at impact.
Sounds like you are on the road with only small refinements from here to help impact/strike and maximize your results. Good luck and enjoy the journey!!

Yes, swing speed increased by an avg 2mph and actually recorded 2 swings at +4 and +8mph faster but ball speed and smash not where I am used to seeing it. When the club was initially built it came in at D5.5 but with a much lower static weight. I rebuilt using some lead tape under the grip to bring swing weight down to D4 which increased static weight a bit. My thought process was to eliminate the lead tape and test at the D5 swing weight with a lighter static. Thanks for the feedback!

Was your first club (TSi-2) a driver or 13.5 fairway?
