My guess is that they aren't limited to a specific number. Given the 2 year timeline between iron releases, I always assumed that converted manufactured irons that already exist into the black sets to reduce inventory. I wish they would release black as an option during the original release. I adore the black Vokey Wedges and would like to convert the rest of my irons over to a black finish.

Well, they released more than SC does of head covers. Or so it seems.

The black heads are not converted. They come in separate shipments. We had a tour of the factory as the initial orders were being fulfilled.

Since Titleist has a carefully sequenced 2 year release, the black heads have been coming out as mid model options to rejuvenate interest to compete with annual releases of the other OEMs. It is bad enough that the “best of X year” club reviews don’t include Titleist clubs entering their second year of production.

With the buzz of excitement with a new release, Titleist will sell all the standard finish clubs they can assemble without throwing in black models at the same time. I don’t expect that to change. The hard part is being a new club junky and waiting a year to see what limited release products will be coming.
