If you were talking 5W vs 3H, that would be a discussion. Whichever hybrid fills the distance gap that needs to filled is the winner. There are more converts on tour using 7W/5W in lieu of hybrids. That still comes down to preference. There are still large numbers that strictly prefer one or the other.

I have a TS2 10.5 driver, TS2 15 degree 3 fairway, and TS2 19 degree all set at standard loft. I use a 22 degree utility U510 and then my 5 iron. I swapped shafts from the originals on the TS2 clubs and they all gap well for me. I really like the setup, and play them well, so I'm afraid to go get fit for the new TSR clubs.

You pretty much answered the important part already, should base it on your own bag set up. I use two fairways and one hybrid so my hybrid is 23 degrees and my fairways 15 and 18 degrees. I don't get too caught up in whether they are called 3 woods, 5 woods, 7 woods, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 5 hybrid, etc. I just make sure the lofts and lengths fill my gaps the way I want. It's definitely not a popularity contest. Find what works for you and even if it's unlike anyone else's set up, use it if it gives you confidence and great results.

Well said my right honorable friend. Play the club that works for you. Mine are based on managing my game and yardage. Have been thinking about a 5 or 7 wood, my fitter and teacher asked me why, you hit those old hybrids rather well? Could not come up with an answer. Hmm. Great point Dale.

While this is mostly a manner of preference question (everyone will vary, some will say stick with the 4-iron). I decided to move from a set-matching 4-iron to a 22 degree 4-iron about 5 years ago and never looked back. I also added a 17.5 degree 5-wood (removed a 4th wedge) my 3-wood is 14 degrees.

I use the hybrid a lot now that I have it. From the rough, fairway, off the tee, chipping/pitching. It's very versatile for me. Whether you choose to go with a 3 or a 4 will depend on your set and the gap(s) you're trying to fill. I'd say give it a try. Was definitely worth it for me. And yes, go get a fitting for it. A good fitting session is always worth it.

I was of the idea a few years ago about this and held onto using the 4 iron as I couldn’t see the benefits of using the hybrid because I felt it would fly too high.
That was until a friend said I was mad not to be using the 3 & 4 hybrid just because they’re so versatile and I got to see it first hand.
I got fitted for them and I just love them they fly the right distance are constant with their distance so easy to use out of the rough around the greens as well.
Not to mention there’s so many great options from Titleist you can find a head that works best for you in your fitting.

I am also very inconsistent with my 4 iron. I am thinking about going with a 22 degree 4 hybrid, already have a 19 degree 3 hybrid. I am hoping this bridges the gap I’m having in the long game. Might consider going 1 degree strong in my 5 iron just to make it a tighter gap. Hope it all works out for you!

My preference for me would be a 4H, because, I don't have the club head speed for a 3H. The differences between a 3 and 4 H, would be length and loft. If you are inconsistent with your long irons, I would start there.

A lot of variables to consider, but between those two, I would go with the 4 hybrid because loft is your friend. I love my TSR 4 hybrid!

I currently have these lofts in my bag: D 9.75°, 3W 15°, 3i 20°, 4i 24°
I use a 3 iron because I tend to hook my hybrid and block my 5W, but those clubs are a 17° H lofted to 19° and a 18° 5W lofted to 20°
My 3W should probably be 16.5° but I don't use it to attack greens. I use it mainly off the tee on par 4s and to run it up the fairway on long par 5s.

Naturally, it always depends on what is in your bag at the time. When a href="">hfgolfers.com/.../"comparing hybrid, wood/a and Iron, in my opinion, a 3 hybrid is better than a 4 iron or 3 wood gap.

4H. I carry a 20 and 23 fairway because they are easier to hit vs a 21 or 24H.

It all just depends... I just a had a trackman lesson to dial in my distances with my new T150s as well as the rest of my bag. This can be a humbling experience.

But what was interesting was my 6 iron flies 160-162, but my 5 iron was only going 169-170. Since the gap was too tight it was suggested a T200 5 iron might give me the 3-4 yards needed to correct this issue (1 degree stronger than the T150 plus some more height and ball speed.

Also my 4, Tsi2 HB (21 degrees) and 5, Tsi2 HB (24 degrees) were also tight 193-194 to 185-187. So the suggestion was a 21 degree 7 wood to expand my gap there.

The moral of the story is to just get fitted and find out what works for you. It is well worth the money spent. You want the right tools in your tool box. FWIW - I'm 62 and index consistently hangs around 6.0

I have a TSi2 4W and 18 and 22 hybrids. I also have a TS2 5W. I hit the hybrids where I want them to go, but I think it’s due to the shorter shafts. I love the 4W off the tee. The 5W is good out of the fairway, but too high and short off the tee. I’ll switch the 3H or 5W out depending upon course. I know this is nuts having 3 clubs like this and really didn’t plan on it. I went searching after giving up on a 3W from the fairway. I recently picked up a 5H-818H1 to try as I like the 3H and 4H so much.

I have a local fitter (at a mom & pop golf store) that helps me out. I've actually gotten to the point in my golf game that I know what shafts work and what swingweight works best and what lengths work the best. I'm not one to spend $300+ on a fairway wood or hybrid. In fact, I got the 9 wood out of the ladies' demo bin at Golf Mart and the fitter helped me with a shaft.

I have a TSR 3 wood and TSR 3 hybrid. Distance wise, I have a pretty large gap between my 3 hybrid and 4 iron, but I hit the ball very high. The 4 hybrid was better distance wise for me, but in windy conditions I couldn't play it very well. I've just learned to choke up on my 3 hybrid if I need to bridge that gap between it and 4 iron.

I like the 3 hybrid, because every now and then, depending on course and condition, I'll put the 4 iron back in the bag.Loft on the 4 hybrid is a little too high for me, based on my distances and the course a usually play.
