What if Titleist doesn't have the right shaft for my fit?

I have my first Titleist fitting on this coming Monday, super excited! I was just looking through the catalog and didn't see any of the shaft models that I've previously been fit into, as well as not seeing the current shafts I play. I recently switched to graphite and it seems their graph selection is somewhat limited. I'll obviously wait and see what the fitter sees/thinks based on my swing and feel. But has anyone else run into this issue, is this an issue, or is there always some type of customization that will make everything perfect?

Side note, there's no way to just order heads from Titleist, correct?

Did you try building a set of irons for direct order? That lists most of the shafts. At the end of the process there is a button for a custom catalog. There may be more there. Hard to imagine there are none of the shafts you’ve used in the past. Most of the shafts are N/C to order. The Catalog indicates those that do have a upcharge.

Correct. Titleist does not sell heads alone.

It depends on your fitter and swing speed. Go to a fitter, not just a salesman. I don't believe many, if any manufacturers sell just the heads. Go to a fitter like Club Champion for the best selection and be prepared to drop some coin. If you have crazy high swing speed, ask around, find a tour level fitter, not the box store guys pushing one brand because the commission is higher. My head pro swings 125-130, which is top level PGA Tour speed, our local Titleist guy fits him, nothing exotic, just a XX +/-.

To answer the last part first, correct. Titleist does not sell unassembled clubs except to those partner companies that do final custom assembly like Club Champion. The reason being that Titleist's high quality control ensures the best performance which is tied to the warranty. Self assembly or a poor assembly that results in head damage could not be easily monitored.

As to fitting options on shafts, the better the fitting location, the larger selection of shafts that will be available. The TPI East and West locations while premium priced, do carry a lot more shaft options than say a mobile fitter that carries the standard kit in their vehicle. If you do your fitting and the graphite versions that have do not perform as well or better than what you have, ask the fitter about options to get what you think you need or move to a second fitting where those shafts might be available. Good luck. I hope you end up with a set that performs well for you.

    Thank you for the reply!

So to answer both my question and respond to you, I just had my fitting this week with an official Titleist fitter at a local club, and well... we found a shaft that worked! I was actually super surprised because the shaft setup that we found is so much different than what I'm currently playing with or what's been fit to me in the past. I'm currently in PX Catalyst 100 stiff with my Apex pro 19 irons but even though I like them I guess I've just gotten used to and familiar with them instead of them being a great fit. The fitter and I found that the Tensei red am2 in regular flex was the best fit; my mind was blown! Lightweight shaft in reg flex?!? wha?? But we looked at the data and it stayed so consistent but more importantly, my misses were better and didn't sway the average numbers too much. For context, I'm a fairly active 40yo who hasn't been in the gym lately but isn't "out of shape" either, so I was amazed that such a light setup was right for me. I guess it all comes down to how I swing the club regardless of my fitness level. I have a smooth tempo and somewhat relaxed swing, it's how i find the most control for me, so I bet that the lighter setup plays with that approach much better; I felt like the club was so much easier to whip around even when I got a little tired, so that's a good thing too.

Anyway, this is why I really wanted a proper fitting and why I sought out Titleist for this experience, I didn't want someone to just cater to my wants and feels, I wanted an unbiased (non-salesman), data driven expert opinion on what is best for how I swing the club and hit the ball. Now I'm waiting on a 5i-48* T200 set with Tensei Red am2 Reg. flex and I'm pumped to try them out! Lastly, it was interesting to find that even tho my current gamers are 2* upright, I actually hit the standard lie T200 better than when we tried the 2* upright heads, weird but hey whatever works plus I can always get that adjusted later if need be.
10/10 would recommend this fitting experience and actually already have, to a buddy of mine yesterday!

Great! I have Tensei AMT Red R's in my T300's but went back to Tensei Red Graphite in my current T350's to help with my progressing psoriatic arthritis. Glad that you found a combination that will serve you well. Hopefully many, many, enjoyable rounds with your new sticks!

Correct. Heads come with shafts. Titleist does not sell parts. Specifically what shafts are you looking for? Were you looking only at the shafts that Titleist offers at no additional costs? If so there is not as big a selection? Maybe your fitter can get you the shaft you want for an upcharge? I wanted a specific shaft for my last driver and it was no longer listed under the no additional cost. I had to go to the upcharge list and was not exactly the same but very close. Depending on how old your shafts are, the do change and are no longer available, except maybe thru eBay.

You likely could order heads through your local rep or through a fitter/golf club. What irons do you currently use?

Reps do not sell clubs!! I work with them in our territory. Fitters need their heads to do fitting, are limited and have to order them thru their reps.

I currently play cally apex pro 19s, but actually just ordered a set of T200 that I was fit into. I was just hoping to customize my clubs without having to take them apart.

As I've said many times in the past, forget what you think you know and trust the fitter. The numbers don't lie.

If your fitter is a "Titleist account", he might be able to order the shafts thru the manufacturer and the heads thru Titleist and build the set for you. Of course there would be a upcharge for the shafts. You can always ask and he can check.
