Q: What can I expect to get at a wedge fitting?

    • A: A better short game, and a great time! Your wedge fitter will start by evaluating your current wedge set makeup. Looking at the lofts and lies of your current iron set will help the fitter determine what loft and distance gaps will need to be filled and what lie angle adjustments may need to be made.  The shafts you’re playing in your irons could influence what shafts you may want to play in your wedges.

Next the fitter will work on gap fitting. They will have you hit shots with your current short irons and a variety of wedges to test your carry distances and determine what lofts you should play to maintain a 10-to-15-yard distance gap between each club.

Now this is where the real fun begins. Once gapping is determined, you’ll work on bounce and grind fitting. Each wedge may require a different grind based off how you typically use it.  The fitter will determine what grinds best suit you for a variety of shots around the green.

You’ll be able to evaluate the greenside performance by hitting pitches, chips, and bunker shots with different grinds to determine what grind will be most helpful in each lie.

Q: Why should I get custom fit for wedges?

    • A: Being properly fit for wedges allows you to find the proper loft and grind setup to maximize your performance. Being fit for length, lie, and loft helps improve accuracy and control. Grind fitting provides forgiveness, improved contact, and versatility around the green, and most importantly confidence.

Q: How do grinds affect contact?

    • A: Having the proper grind for how you deliver a wedge is important.  If the leading edge is too high at impact, you may see low, thin shots more often.  If the leading edge is too low or digs at impact, you’ll likely see the ball hit high on the face and take off high, short, with less spin and control.  A properly fit grind will provide consistent contact, maximum spin, and control.

Q: When do I know if I’m good enough to get fit? / Who should get fit?

    • A: Everyone! All skill levels can benefit from fitting.  All levels of players have swing tendencies and have typical conditions they play in. Finding wedges with the appropriate grinds can improve a player’s likelihood of making clean contact on any given shot. Better contact leads to better control and improved scoring.
