You have already answered your own question. The only way to dial in your max potential is through a good fitting. I say good because you can get a quick “big box store” fitting that might get you slightly better results or a real good certified Titleist fitter who can fine toon the right head and shaft combination to get you the driver that works best for you.

I have had a similar problem. My driver is 10 years old and in the last couple of years I have noticed the ball flight is a little spinny with too much dispersion, mostly left misses. After getting fit for a TRS2 3 wood with a Project X Hzrds Black 4g shaft with 6.5 flex, it was even more obvious that my driver shaft was not right.. I got fit for the TSR2 driver and we went with the same Project X shaft I have in the 3 wood except it’s the TX flex. The fitter wanted me to try the TSR3 head to get the spin down but I wanted the TSR 2 for the look and fact that it’s more forgiving. We got the spin rate down with the TX flex shaft. Just getting the spin rate down will give you more yardage with the roll after landing. I was getting almost no roll with the old driver. I gained 20 yards with the new driver.

What you will get with a Titleist fitter is someone that will know how to get the proper launch angle and spin rate by combining clubhead and shaft. Stop tinkering and go to an expert. Titleist has a great selection of shafts with no upcharge, and you can always go with something exotic as well.

you have to have the right head and shaft combo but I have found that ball fitting is just as important. Worked on getting driver spin down with a bunch of shaft combinations and driver head adjustments. Switched to the Pro V1 to the Pro 1X left dash and it dropped my spin by 200-300 which was ideal. You can go down a lot of rabbit holes with shafts but the ball being used can make a difference in spin and is a lot cheaper than investing in $400 dollar shaft

Not necessarily. Im 64 My 7 iron is 155 to 160. Ive got a TSR3 and can carry that 255 to 265. You just need right setting.

If you are just chasing distance, go to a true Titleist guy, and get properly fit. If you are a player, dial in the 3/5 woods, 260-270 is plenty from the Blue tees. Consider a mini-driver or a Strong 3-wood. I'm 58 and hit mine 275-280 all day long.

I said it before, but I bought the last 4 series off the rack and I just went with what I thought I needed. I got fit for the GT series and gained 15 yards easy. 20 yards on off center strikes.

Too much spin will kill your distance, which you never said how much it was. Getting the right shaft and head is why seeing a certified Titleist fitter is the key. Think it is more your club than the ball. Once you get the correct club, get a fitting for your ball. Prov1x might be what need. Height and distance. Ask you fitter about that also.
